Job Purpose

Kansas City Kansas Community College, Career and Technical Education is seeking a full-time instructor to teach Construction Technology-related courses at Basehor-Linwood High School and other TEC locations, including Pioneer Career Center (PCC).

Position Description
  • Provide formal instruction and leadership in Construction Technology.
  • Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints
  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required
  • Establish and/or help maintain an industry-based advisory board in support of college
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration
  • Transport and supervise students at job sites
  • Assist in student job placement and submit follow-up documentation
  • Participate in professional development
  • Assist in obtaining or maintaining accreditation for programs taught as assigned
  • Serve on institutional committees as needed
  • Complete all assessment work
  • Responsible for the transportation of students during field trips per the college's policies and guidelines
  • Other related duties as assigned

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Five (5) years of directly related verifiable experience in Construction Technology
  • Must have or qualify to obtain NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certification in applicable construction technology subject areas

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education
  • Teaching experience an open enrollment, urban community college
  • Associates Degree or higher in Construction Technology, or other closely related field
  • Other construction technology relevant certification(s)
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy

Physical Requirements

Work involves the setup and operation of potentially hazardous equipment and machinery as well as the occasional lifting and moving of construction and manufacturing components and materials requiring the lifting of at least 50 lbs. Mobility within the classroom and shop are required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and occasionally push or lift items. Work Schedule

Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
