Description

The Department of English at West Virginia University invites applications for an assistant professor specializing in Appalachian and Southern Regional literature starting August 12, 2022. This is a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position with full benefits.

The candidate will attract undergraduates to the English major as well as recruit, and support current, Ph.D. candidates wishing to specialize in Appalachian studies and Southern regional literature. The successful candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary study of Appalachia and WVU's new Appalachian Studies minor. Candidates should have the ability to teach effectively both upper and lower-division undergraduate courses. The successful applicant will have opportunities to develop graduate courses and seminars in their field.

The Department of English has a faculty of 33 in literature, creative writing, sociolinguistics, and composition and rhetoric, and we offer a full range of academic programs (B.A., M.A., M.A. in Professional Writing and Editing, M.F.A., and Ph.D.).

WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area. Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in English or a closely related field by June 2022. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to and potential for establishing and maintaining a strong record of excellence in research as evidenced by an active research agenda, conference papers and publications, as well as commitment to and potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching load is 2 courses per semester.
