*THE SEARCH*

Bowling Green State University (BGSU), a doctoral/high-research public university in northwest Ohio, seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative leader to serve as the next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (the College). The next Dean will lead the largest academic unit in the University and will develop innovative strategies to leverage the disciplinary diversity of the College of Arts and Sciences in fulfilling its integral role in BGSU's mission as an institution for the public good. The ongoing national discourse about public universities and the relevance of a liberal arts education requires academic leaders who are nimble and creative in a rapidly changing environment. BGSU seeks a Dean who will lead faculty, staff, and students in developing and implementing a holistic and unifying vision that capitalizes on the diverse disciplines of the performing and visual arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences to build a College of Arts and Sciences for the 21st Century.

The College enrolls more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students across 18 departments and four schools, and approximately 384 faculty teach and engage in research and creative works. The Dean will collaboratively develop a shared vision for the College that prepares both undergraduate and graduate students to be knowledgeable and engaged citizens in a diverse and ever-changing world. BGSU embraces its role as a public university and intentionally prepares students for their lives after graduation. Through excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, creative work, and outreach, BGSU builds an inclusive community where creative ideas, new knowledge, and entrepreneurial achievements benefit others in the region and across the world. BGSU is emerging from the global pandemic in a strong position, with student enrollment poised to exceed pre-pandemic levels, and the University's leadership continues to move BGSU forward with an unwavering commitment to serve both traditional and post-traditional students.

BGSU seeks candidates with a demonstrated ability to provide collaborative leadership for the College-and the University more broadly-by promoting BGSU's teaching, research, and service missions, fostering an environment that promotes and embraces diversity, equity, and belonging, and further strengthens the educational experience for all students to reach their full potential. This position will require a leader who proactively and positively engages external constituencies and stakeholders to develop support for the College's mission. Additionally, the next Dean will advocate for the College while being a collaborative leader in concert with the other colleges and units of the University. The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. or terminal degree along with credentials and achievements that merit appointment as a tenured full professor in the College of Arts and Sciences. The next Dean also needs to have significant senior leadership and administrative experience in a large, complex organization as well as exceptional interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and energy that can be positively conveyed to all members of the BGSU community and external constituents.
