* Job Summary *Job ID: 236390 **Position Number: 20009424*The AU Center for Blood Disorders is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist with experience in genomics and molecular diagnostics. The Center for Blood Disorders serves benign hematology patients and has a well-established, robust research history, particularly in the areas of sickle cell disease and hemophilia/thrombophilia. The Center has been awarded additional funding to develop methods to diagnose uncharacterized bleeding and clotting disorders and to refine testing for hemoglobinopathies. This position will be responsible for developing Next Gene Sequencing (NGS) panels, planning and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting results, keeping accurate records of work, and assisting with QA/QC protocols required for CAP accreditation. This position will also be expected to establish research collaborations with other faculty, institutions, and industry stakeholders; carry out searches for information on new and relevant tests in this field; stay current on relevant literature; attend scientific meetings and conferences; and assist with training of students and staff.Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Research:*
* Participate in project planning and development of research protocols
* Participate in development of new methodologies to diagnose uncharacterized bleeding and clotting disorders and hemoglobinopathy disorders
* Establish protocols for proper usage and maintenance of Gene sequencer.
* Develop Next Gene Sequencing (NGS) panels, planning and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting results
* Keep accurate records of different experiments
* Troubleshoot equipment and establish protocols for proper maintenance
* Establish research collaborations with other faculty, institutions, and industry stakeholders
* Carry out literature review of new and relevant tests in this field and proper usage of new technology to advance testing offered in the lab
* Attend scientific meetings and conferences
* Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature assisting in composing articles for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation for national/international meetings
* Assist with writing and submitting applications and progress reports to funding agencies
* Services: *
* Participate in refining current diagnostic methods
* Assist with QA/QC protocols required for CAP accreditation
* Participate in routine testing offered by the lab for patient care needs
* Planning and conducting experiments and analyzing and interpreting results
* Keep accurate records of work undertaken
* Actively participate in monitoring quality control
* Teaching/Instruction: *

* Assist with training of relevant staff with new techniques and methods
* Teaching and supervising students, residents and fellows who rotate with laboratory
Minimum Requirements PhD from an accredited university with a minimum of two years progressive laboratory research experience in genomicsORMaster's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science a minimum of five years experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratoryKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Shift/Salary Shift: Days; Mon-Fri; 8-5**This position is 100% Grant Funded* Salary to be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.Conditions of Employment All candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review.
