The [Theatre and Dance Program](https://vapa.uccs.edu/index/theatre) within the [Department of Visual and Performing Arts ](https://vapa.uccs.edu/)within the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences (LAS) seeks a full time, tenure-track dance focused interdisciplinary artist and scholar for an assistant professor position. The programmatic ethos of integration of theatre and dance, in addition to other areas of Visual and Performing Arts, is important to our faculty and a central focus of this new position. Responsibilities include the teaching of studio classes, the designing and teaching of an innovative two-part dance history sequence, and producing a yearly dance concert for the department. The ideal candidate will be expected to help guide the growing dance program and further develop and enhance the dance major. An expertise on styles beyond "classically" defined western and Eurocentric styles is expected. The program is experiencing extensive growth and recently moved into the new 90,000 square foot Ent Center for the Performing Arts, providing opportunity for residencies and master classes by nationally renowned dance artists.*Nature of Work*: * Teach a range of classes including dance history, world dance, dance special topics, and theatre/dance integration
* Work with the Director of Theatre and Dance and the dance faculty in developing the dance major
* Help plan and schedule a season of dance performances and events in the dance studio in the Ent Center for the Arts
* Assist the Director in advising dance students

An emphasis on styles beyond "classically" defined western and Eurocentric styles is expected.
* Create and teach dance and movement history courses that form the backbone of the major track
* Actively develop ideas to integrate theatre and dance pedagogy.
* Teach some introductory level movement courses
* Occasionally choreograph or consult on plays in the season of the UCCS Theatre Company
* Assist in the development and curation of a full season of dance performances. Propose visiting guest artists and assist in hosting residencies at UCCS
*Relationships*: * Relationships include the other programs within the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, the director of the Ent Center for the Arts, the Ent Center partner organizations, the Heller Center for the Humanities and other departments within the College of Letters Arts and Sciences.
The normal workload for this position is 40% teaching, 40% research and/or creative works and 20% service with potential for modification to reflect duties.This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).*What We Offer:**Salary Range:* Generally starting at $59,000- $62,000. Qualifications
*Minimum Requirements:*
* MFA or Ph.D. required in Dance
* Three years of professional or teaching experience in forms of dance beyond "classically" defined western, Eurocentric models.
* Three years of experience in professional or educational dance or choreography
*Preferred Requirements:*
* Five years of experience in professional or educational dance or choreography.
* Demonstrated movement research and writing and/or creative works
*Physical Requirements:*While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
