Global Science & Technology, Inc (GST), a growing high technology company, is seeking an experienced Electro-Optical Instrument Engineer to support a NASA program. The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.

Position Summary:

The Electro-Optical Instrument Engineer will serve as a team member in airborne and space-based sensor projects to design, develop, assemble, test, modify, and operate Electro-Optical sensors, perform component and system tests, use software packages to control test equipment and then analyze digital data sets from test events, and present and interpret data results. The emphasis will be on electro-optical sensors and environmental testing of lidar instruments and optical detectors.

The work site is on-site in government laboratories at the Goddard Space Flight Center or in field and airborne missions where the work will be performed under the supervision of senior engineering staff.

Primary Duties:
  • Work in an electro-optical test-engineering environment as a team member to develop and apply test hardware and software.
  • Operate laboratory test equipment, collect data, perform statistical analysis of data, prepare and present test reports.
  • Participate in ground-based and airborne remote sensing field missions.
  • Document test plans, test procedures, test reports, and archive test results.
  • Maintain system documentation


Required Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, optics, related physical science, or computer science.
  • Experience using software packages: Matlab, IDL, python, and Microsoft Office in the acquisition of sensor data, analysis of digital numerical data sets acquired by laboratory and field test applications of instruments, and reporting/communicating test data.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in the application of data acquisition software to compute statistics, analyze data sets, and prepare test reports, presentation materials, and scientific/engineering presentations and publications of sensor data.


Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • Master of Science degree.
  • Experience with laser diodes, solid-state lasers, fiber optics, optical systems, and optical detectors
  • Experience supporting laboratory test and field deployment remote sensing activities
  • Data analysis of sensor-related digital datasets
  • Record of preparation and contribution to test reports, presentation materials, and scientific/engineering publications


U.S. citizenship is required, and US Passport is needed for field and airborne missions.
