Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge?

Do you have an established background in farming systems research?

Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research-intensive Universities?

You will work as part of a team on the Innovate UK and Defra Farming Innovation Pathways (FIP) industrial research project ' Developing a Circular Economy for UK Pig Production through Green Ammonia Harvesting ' (PigProGrAm). PigProGrAm is a collaborative project with industry that has a vision to develop and demonstrate a novel farm-focused solution for the harvesting of green ammonia from livestock. This innovation will help to create a more sustainable livestock industry in the UK, reducing the environmental impacts of production by reducing ammonia emissions, whilst at the same time creating an additional income stream for farmers. The project takes a circular approach to sustainability by demonstrating potential reductions in the carbon footprint of pig production by including a low carbon feed through to the harvesting of ammonia and its use either directly or indirectly via hydrogen production as a net-zero fuel and power source, either on-farm, or in other applications.

The University of Leeds is leading on the Baseline Carbon Footprint Work Package. Working in partnership with the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) alongside other project partners, the post holder will utilise data collected from environmental monitoring equipment installed on a commercial farm in Yorkshire to conduct a Lifecycle Assessment (LCA), both pre- and post-intervention to model and validate the impacts of the harvesting of green ammonia from livestock. The post holder will also identify, plan and deliver dissemination events to be hosted at the University of Leeds National Pig Centre (NPC), which is part of the UK's Agri-Tech Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Livestock (CIEL).

You should have A PhD (or close to completion) in sustainable agriculture, agri-environment or a closely allied discipline. You should also have experience in and knowledge of: the conduct of life cycle assessments in an agricultural or environmental context; working closely with external stakeholders and industry partners; advanced statistical analysis; and data analysis techniques. We will support you to develop your skills through training and mentoring, whilst also providing opportunities to develop your grant writing skills.
