Full-Time Faculty: Department of Occupational Therapy (OTD)

Summary of Position: All faculty members of the Occupational Therapy Program at Indiana Wesleyan University support and actively contribute to the mission of the institution by seeking to create a Christ-centered academic community committed to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship and leadership.

Position is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment. Faculty in the occupational therapy program are responsible for teaching graduate students, mentoring graduate research projects, advising students, and providing service to the department, the School of Health Sciences, Indiana Wesleyan University and our surrounding community.

Duties and Responsibilities

* ACOTE Standard A.2.3: Core faculty who are occupational therapists possess the academic and experiential qualifications and backgrounds that are necessary to meet the program objectives and the mission of the institution.
* Core faculty can document expertise in their area of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method.
* Core faculty are expected to contribute to ongoing curriculum design/improvement and program evaluation.

* ACOTE Standard A.2.6: Core faculty who are occupational therapists are currently licensed in the state of Indiana.
* ACOTE Standard A.2.7: All full-time teaching in the program must hold a doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body. The doctoral degree is not limited to a doctorate in occupational therapy.
* Teach graduate School of Health Sciences course(s) as assigned
* Select teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting
* Present ideas clearly
* Create a climate and culture that is conducive to learning
* Engage in curriculum development related to current and new courses
* Educate occupational therapy graduate students with a focus on occupation and evidence-based practice
* Demonstrate proficiency in face-to-face teaching and the use of the Indiana Wesleyan learning management system for distributing course materials to traditional on-campus students
* Teach courses in foundations as well as a specialty practice areas
* Collaborate with fellow faculty members within the School of Health Sciences to develop and participate in courses, research projects and community service
* Engage in scholarly activities within and outside the department
* Advise students
* Participate in department and college-wide committees and meetings
* Serve on program, school and university committees
* Participate in state and/or local community service that is recognized form of career development
* Maintain a personal professional development plan, which may include research and/or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field
* Display behavior consistent with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) professional standards and ethics
* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

* Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, OTD or equivalent in a field related to Occupational Therapy).
* Must also be licensed or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Indiana and have a current NBCOT certification.

Experience

* A minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in occupational therapy is required
* A commitment to teaching excellence is required.
* A minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary teaching experience preferred.

* Possesses the interpersonal qualities and skills to work effectively as a member of the Indiana Wesleyan University Health Sciences faculty team
* Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of OT study, including the ability to document expertise in area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method
* Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques
* Identification of needs of students based on the academic curriculum design and accreditation standards
* Skills for evaluation of the impact of teaching on the teaching-learning process and implementation of modifications as appropriate
* Capable of inspiring a shared vision for the OTD program among internal and external stakeholders
* Skills in interpreting and action upon recommendations identified in course and program evaluation
* Skills in the use of computers, internet resources, and MS Office software
* Oral Comprehension-the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
* Oral Expression-the ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand
* Written Expression-the ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand
* Written Comprehension-the ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
* Problem Sensitivity-the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem
* Deductive Reasoning-the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
* Inductive Reasoning-the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (include finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
* Speech Clarity-the ability to speak clearly so others can understand the content conveyed
* Speech Recognition-the ability to identify and understand the speech of another person
* Ability to advice, instruct, manage, and motivate students for excellence in their academic pursuits
* Ability to utilize relevant computer application in Indiana Wesleyan University's online integrated database system for student advising, grading, and online instruction
* Ability to integrate appropriate technology into the teaching and learning process
* Ability to successfully interact with students, fieldwork educators, residency mentors, other educators and institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner
* Knowledge of the student support programs and services offered by Indiana Wesleyan University
* Interest and ability to work collaboratively in inter-professional, educational, and clinical settings
* Adherence to the AOTA Code of Standards and Ethics
