Work Hours/Shift:

Full Time Nights

You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Collects data (e.g. physical, psychosocial, environmental, developmental), pertaining to the health status of patients in assigned nursing unit in a comprehensive manner under the supervision of the RN.
  • Administers ordered treatments and medications within scope of practice safely and competently.
  • Performs nursing skills and treatment within scope of practice and in accordance of provider orders and AdventHealth policy and procedure.
  • Monitors patient's status throughout shift and reports pertinent patient information and significant findings of admission and on-going patient information to appropriate member(s) of the health care team.
  • Monitors patient throughout shift including response to interventions/ treatments.
  • Completes documentation according to policy and procedure.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration, storage and controlled substance regulations.
  • Assists in resolving patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Assists the RN with patient care plan on assigned unit in collaboration with the patient, family and multidisciplinary care team.
  • Implements & coordinates patient care activities with the care delivery team on assigned unit to ensure the delivery of quality care.
  • Communicates the plan of care to other members of the healthcare team verbally throughout the shift and during shift report.
  • Collaborates effectively with nursing and clinical ancillary team members.
  • Communicates/documents all patient care provided
  • Transcribes and implements physician orders within scope of practice.
  • Provides patient education based on identified needs.
  • Promotes patient independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patients, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
  • Attends department-required in-services and department meetings.
  • Maintains current licensures and certifications as required.
  • Provides appropriate patient care specific to the needs of the patient populations served (e.g. age group, patients of size; diagnosis-based).
  • Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of the specific physical, psychosocial and developmental needs of patients as appropriate to the populations served.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends and families.
  • Assists with Quality Indicators, including Core Measures.
  • Accurately completes Core Measure Indicators in nursing documentation.
  • Gives verbal input to charge nurse regarding any policy/procedure changes.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations wit the assistance of healthcare support personnel.
  • Participates in unit quality improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • The LPN will display proficient clinical skills and critical thinking skills with strong communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with an electronic health record.
  • A commitment to working with the mulitidisciplinary team to provide an exceptional patient experience.
  • Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation Proficiency

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
    • Previous Experience with Electronic Medical Record
    • Previous Experience with Medication Administration
    • Previous Experience in Customer Service or Healthcare

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent LPN program
  • Basic computer skills, excellent human relations and oral/written skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
    • (12) months experience preferred but not required

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
  • Current State of Florida Practical Nursing License
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS certification (Required within 90 days of hire in Critical Care Services, Clinical Decision Unit, and Emergency Department)
  • Current American Heart Association PALS certification (Required within 90 days of hire in the Emergency Department)
  • Florida State Approved IV Certification required within 30 days upon start date
  • NIHSS Stroke Scale Certification within 30 days of hire


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Delegates tasks appropriately to unlicensed personnel including nursing assistants, nurse techs, unit clerks, monitor techs in which the unlicensed personnel have demonstrated competence.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide direct care to patients as a member of a multidisciplinary care team. Direct Care will be provided at a demonstrated level of competent practice to patients on a designated unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse as defined by the Florida State Board of Nursing and AdventHealth policy. As a member of the care team, the LPN will work the assigned unit based on his/her orientation, competencies and patient needs. Responsible for care provision of assigned patients and delegating tasks to unlicensed personnel within scope of practice. Collaborates with clinical ancillary team members in the delivery of patient care.
