The role

We are seeking a dynamic individual to act as Trial Manager for the EASE Trial (Emotional Skills Groups for perinatal women with borderline personality disorder).

This post offers an outstanding opportunity for an experienced researcher to join an exciting new study, working as part of a multidisciplinary team within the University of Bristol, and with collaborators at the Universities of Warwick and Bangor and participating NHS sites in Southwest England and South East London.

EASE is an NIHR- funded randomised controlled feasibility trial designed to find out whether women with borderline personality disorder can be helped by offering them emotional skills groups, during pregnancy or during the first year after giving birth. The Trial Manager will be accountable for ensuring that the trial is conducted to the highest possible standards, under the supervision of the Chief Investigator (CI) (Prof. Paul Moran). The Trial Manager will also lead on the collection and analysis of data from a nested qualitative study.

What will you be doing?

The post requires strong organisational skills to administer and support the study being delivered across two areas in England. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that the trial complies with all regulatory requirements and good clinical practice. The Trial Manager will lead all aspects of the trial and liaise with the PIs in Bristol, Swindon and SE London, the trial management committees and academic staff in Bristol, Warwick and Bangor Universities to ensure recruitment and follow-up targets are achieved within the proposed timeframe. Key tasks will include the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures; telephone screening of potential participants; overseeing all data collection; regular liaison with the site PIs, collaborators and trial management committee; and ensuring that recruitment and follow-up targets are achieved within the proposed timeframe. The Trial Manager will also lead on the collection and analysis of data from a nested qualitative study.

You should apply if
  • Experience of managing a randomised controlled trial (RCT)
  • The ability to develop, implement and monitor standard operating procedures
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to pro-actively and creatively implement solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of ethical and legal requirements for medical research, particularly RCTs
  • Demonstrable ability to manage own workload, and to prioritise competing demands
  • The ability to manage a budget
