Dalhousie University is seeking a recognized leader in electrochemical energy storage to be nominated for a Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) position, who will join and expand an internationally recognized team of researchers in clean energy. The ideal candidate will complement Dal’s current strengths in lithium and sodium ion battery technologies by hosting a world leading team in clean and sustainable electrochemical energy storage and will intensify research efforts through leading interdisciplinary projects.

Examples of research areas of interest for the CERC include novel approaches for green fuel production and storage (including CO2 and N2 reduction as well as hydrogen), redox flow batteries, and sustainable and renewable materials processing/manufacturing for energy storage applications.

With recent investments of over $25M in infrastructure and operation funding and the recent addition of a Tier 1 CRC in Social Dimensions of Clean Technologies, the candidate will join a rapidly growing ecosystem focused on a range of technologies designed to help Canada and the world reach net zero carbon emissions.

Candidates will have an outstanding track record of research contributions in their field and be at a career stage consistent with the rank of Full Professor at the time of appointment or within two years of nomination.  In addition to demonstrated leadership and a track record of attracting and mentoring a diverse group of students and research personnel, candidates will have a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an equitable and inclusive research environment.

The CERC program imposes no restrictions on nominees regarding nationality or country of residence. Members of the Chair’s team may also be eligible for an expedited work permit. Researchers who hold a full-time academic appointment at a Canadian institution are eligible, but should they be nominated. The University will be required to demonstrate the net benefit to Canada in moving the researcher from one Canadian institution to another.

All CERC appointments are subject to review and approval by the CERC Secretariat. The results of the CERC application are expected to be announced in Spring 2023. The successful candidate will have up to 12 months to take up the award and the duties of the position.

To be considered, please submit your application through https://dal.peopleadmin.ca/postings/8765 by February 24, 2022. A complete application will include: a curriculum vitae, a brief description of the research program related to the chair (maximum of three pages), significant contributions to the field (peer-reviewed articles, monographs, patents, etc.), and the names of three experts prepared to submit a letter of recommendation.  All applications will be kept confidential.

Dalhousie recognizes that career paths can be diverse and that career interruptions may occur. Applicants are encouraged to include, in their cover letter, an explanation of the impact that any career interruptions may have had on their record of research achievement.
