Job Description:

The School of Performing Arts (SPA) at the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), invites applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer and technical director with an anticipated start date of August 2022.

The successful candidate will be supervising all aspects of scenery and properties planning, construction, installation, rehearsal, and strike; operation of theatre rigging; teaching Stagecraft I and II and the associated scene shop labs; teaching the scene shop labs for technical theatre production ("stagecraft for actors") and supervising and evaluating technical theatre practicum students.

The technical theatre and stage management programs at the University of Central Florida (UCF) include a faculty of 6 designers, a stage manager, and technical director: and a staff consisting of a production manager, an assistant technical director, a production electrician, a costume shop manager, a costume workroom supervisor, a sound supervisor and approximately 75 BFA students with a department of 35 faculty and staff and 450 students. The academic year includes 6 productions, and the summer season includes 1 fully produced production and several staged readings.

Minimum Qualifications:

A nonterminal master's degree (for instructor) or a terminal degree (for lecturer) in appropriate area of technical theatre specialization from an accredited institution or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience as a technical director in a professional or academic theatre.

* Experience teaching at the university level.

* Experience in creating and adhering to production build calendar(s) and schedule(s).

* Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor technical direction students.

* Demonstrated ability to work well with students of different abilities and skill levels.

* Demonstrated ability to work well with both student and faculty designers.

* Demonstrated ability to develop and adhere to production budgets.

* Experience working with automation.

* Experience with theatrical rigging.

* Experience working with CNC equipment.

* Experience with welding.

* Demonstrated ability to develop and adhere to safety requirements and safe working procedures.
