Description

The West Virginia University Research Corporation Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology is seeking applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow. This position will study epigenetic mechanisms of drug resistance of hematological cancers in the bone marrow microenvironment with a focus on chromatin regulators and transcription factors. The lab utilizes genome-wide sequencing assays to characterize changes in chromatin landscapes, to illustrate the underling regulatory mechanisms of drug resistance, and to explore novel therapeutics to reduce the resistance. The qualified candidate should have strong communication skills, be self-motivated, detail oriented, able to work in a collaborative setting, and have strong knowledge and experiences on molecular cell biology and cancer biology. He/she should be proficient in experimental skills including cell line culture, cell purification by magnetic beads or FACS, RT-qPCR, ChIP-qPCR, western blot, apoptosis assays, proliferation assays, shRNA knockdown (stable and inducible), and other common procedures.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
  • Conduct molecular cellular experiments with minimal level of supervision.
  • Support and mentor graduates and other research personnel.
  • Overseeing wet-lab operations: configure and maintain equipment, inventory management, apply and develop experimental protocols, prepare reagents, monitor conditions of lab equipment, and assure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Maintain detailed logs of work related activities, including accurate laboratory records and data on research methods, procedures, and results.
  • Prepare experiment results for presentations to colleagues and PI, at conferences, and for publication.
  • Write and present research/study status reports for review and use of the PI.
  • Assisting the PI in preparing manuscript and grant applications.


Qualifications
  • PhD degree in medicine, biology, or related science field
  • Experiences on molecular cell biology and cancer biology.
  • Ability to work with cell lines and mice.
  • Skilled in cell culture techniques.
  • Skilled in standard cell and molecular biology techniques, such as DNA and RNA purification, cloning, PCR, western blotting.
  • Skilled in sequencing library preparation: ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq, and other relevant techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of immunology, molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry and/or animal models.
  • Skilled communication in English.
  • Skilled at using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Skilled at strategic planning for research program development.
  • Ability to document experiment procedure and present the results of research.
  • Ability to write articles for publication and conference presentation.
  • Demonstrates group presentation skills, participates in meetings, is responsive and speaks clearly and persuasively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Writes and edits clearly and informatively, varies style to meet needs, and presents/interprets data (numeric, formulas, graphs etc) effectively.
  • Skilled in problem solving: define questions, gathers and analyzes information, identifies problems, seeks alternatives, and works well in team and resolves matters timely.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as well as prepare, present and report results effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams of co-investigators and other researchers.
