ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for an associate scientist who will assist in the design and performance of in vitro transcription protocols and methods for efficiently preparing template DNA's. This position will be in the Upstream Development Group within Early Bioprocess Development, VRD, Pearl River NY. The incumbent will contribute to a program dedicated to the development of RNA for use as a vaccine entity. Major responsibilities of the role are the laboratory design and execution of processes that can be operated at the milligram/gram scale. A background in biochemistry and molecular biology would be components of a successful candidate's background. The incumbent would join a team of scientists who are dedicated to the application of genetic and molecular biology for designing processes and for solving process related issues.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The incumbent's primary assignment is to assist with the design and optimization of in vitro transcription (IVT) reactions for production of RNA as drug substance.
  • Assisting with selection and design of strategies for scaling the reactions from the lab milligram scale to gram quantity pilot scale is also in scope
  • The incumbent will also assist in the design of strategies for the production, linearization and purification of DNA templates for use in IVT
  • Assisting with the design of techniques and vectors for generating bulk quantities of DNA/plasmid as source for the linearization reaction is an area of interest for this position
  • The incumbent will execute the construction of vectors, recombinant constructs and host cell lines that will support efficient production of plasmid for use as template
  • Incumbent will adapt new technologies for the group
  • Organizes and tabulates data
  • Presents data summaries to the supervisor, other members of the working team, and to other groups within Pfizer
  • Fully documents experimentation in laboratory notebooks in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Works irregular hours (weekends and outside of 9-5 format) as experiments warrant


QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or related discipline with 2-5 years experience
  • Familiar with the design and execution of enzymatic reactions
  • Has a solid grounding in molecular biology and biochemistry
  • Familiar with analytical techniques such as agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, fragment analyzers, ddPCR and HPLC
  • Ability to work on familiar tasks with limited instruction and supervision
  • Ability to work on complex experiments and multiple experiments with supervision
  • Collaborates in a team environment
  • Compiles and organizes data
  • Has experience in preparing and making summary presentations
