The Creighton University School of Medicine has campuses in Omaha, Nebraska and in Phoenix, Arizona. The Arizona campus is expanding from a 3rd and 4th year regional medical education site to a full four-year medical education program beginning in August, 2021. Applicants for this position will have an exciting opportunity to take on a key role in establishing the Creighton University Medical School Phoenix Regional Campus and developing the school into a world-class academic medical education institution.

The Phoenix Regional Campus invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month faculty position in the Basic Sciences. Basic Science Faculty are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the CUSOM curricular template/schedule for exam and non-exam weeks; ensuring that their area of expertise is represented throughout the four-year curriculum; serving as a course Block Director or Co-Block Director during pre-clinical years; scheduling learning sessions during their Block within the curricular template; identifying faculty to lead learning sessions; and evaluating the efficacy of their curriculum.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Basic Science Faculty will:

• Work closely with faculty on the Omaha campus to create appropriate content and learning sessions; design, develop, and implement sessions related to one's area of expertise, including in-class active learning, lectures, workshops, and assessments.

• Identify faculty educators and develop assessments and exams.

• Participate in the writing, evaluating, editing, and delivering of case-based learning (CBL) cases, team-based learning (TBL) sessions, and peer instruction sessions.

• Use the CUSOM curricular template to ensure the appropriate number of CBLs and TBLs for exam and non-exam weeks.

• Teach in large group active learning sessions, laboratory sessions, and small group sessions.

• Work with the Basic Science Director to make sure basic science topics pertinent to one's area of expertise are represented in the Block design.

• When serving as a Block Director, coordinate and conduct meetings with all faculty in one's Block-including Discipline Stewards in the BLUE, GREEN, and GOLD Tracks-to ensure that all required topics and learning objectives are met and that all three Tracks of the curriculum are intentionally and effectively integrated.

• Oversee faculty submission of session materials required for curriculum mapping to program objectives and curriculum content mapping in a timely manner.

• Model best-practice teaching methods by incorporating active learning into each large and small group session. • Provide feedback to teaching faculty regarding teaching methods and evaluation.

• Evaluate students and provide timely feedback.

• Participate in the identification of at-risk students and provide support, tutoring, or referral to Academic Success Consultants as indicated.

• When serving as a Block Director, meet with student leadership at end of Block to address questions related to final exam.

• When serving as a Block Director, meet with Director of Assessment and Evaluation after completion of Block to review and address student feedback and develop action plan for improvements to future Block.

• Demonstrate commitment to Educational Policy Committee-approved Program Objectives.

• Communicate effectively with medical students and all other stakeholders.

• Serve on CUSOM committees as requested.

• Participate in faculty development activities.

• Serve as a mentor to medical students.

• Participate in the accreditation process related to area of expertise.

• All faculty members are required to pursue scholarly activity, consistent with the requirements for career advancement at Creighton University.

• It is expected that one will become an active participant in professional organization relevant to one's area of academic and/or scientific expertise.

Education and Experience:
• PhD or equivalent degree required.
• Experience teaching in medical education for a minimum of three years preferred.
• Experience managing teams.
