We are currently searching for a Secure Scientific Platform Integration to support NCI and NCATS collaboration on the development of data management and analysis platforms to support a broad range of data types and analytic approaches, including strategies for multimodal analysis and application of AI-based methods. Platforms capable of accommodating genomic, clinical, proteomic, metabolomic, microbiome, 2D imaging and multi-dimensional imaging have been deployed or are under development. At this time, additional support for integration of analytic resources, both on premises and cloud, and development of analytic approaches and workflows tailored to specific disciplines and use cases is required. Work will be carried out in both the NCATS and NCI environments and shared between the two departments. This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Rockville, MD.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Identify operational and technical problems; work with staff to identify a recommended action plan and solutions
  • Provide scientific evaluation and analysis to facilitate management of programs related to bioinformatics and big data
  • Attend and participate in multidisciplinary research team meetings and functions
  • Use science writing skills to extract science themes and priorities during multidisciplinary science meetings
  • Interpret scientific data to identify high priority, conduct portfolio analysis, identify opportunities and problem areas
  • Collaborate with staff on the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area of research
  • Develop research plans for new projects
  • Review and summarize materials and data; gather and coordinate information for review; conduct data entry and file maintenance; edit and/or prepare text, data, and charts
  • Prepare for a variety of information exchanges with public and private sector science colleagues working on research, programs, and policy related to research program priorities
  • Confer with other government agencies, extramural researchers and the broader scientific community on future projects, policy, and general research
  • Meet with leadership on a regular basis to provide oral reports and discuss the status of on-going projects and to receive new assignments
  • Implement program initiatives related to the Institute research and training portfolio
  • Prepare, write, and edit technical proposals and papers related to research program including topics related to international research policy and novel program evaluation; develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for implementation of programmatic and administrative activities
  • Work with staff and awardee staff to plan and execute communications and training programs related to the data science programs
  • Work with staff on the development and coordination of scientific activities within the initiative
