Position Title Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, is seeking a faculty colleague at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track) in the field of Applied Ontology. AOS : Any area directly connected to Applied Ontology, including, but not limited to: Metaphysics, Applied Ontology, Formal Logic. AOC : Any area related to AOS .

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to UB's Applied Ontology focus within the PhD Program. Teaching will include philosophy courses at the undergraduate, Masters, and PhD levels; course load is 2 courses per term (2/2), plus usual advising roles. Normal departmental, university, and discipline-relative service duties will be expected of successful candidate.

Applicants need not presently be working in Applied Ontology, but demonstrated success in the field will be required for tenure. Demonstrated success is understood to include such achievements as: publishing in prominent ontology journals; having papers accepted by leading ontology conferences; using or developing ontologies; winning grant funding for ontology research.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD conferred by time of appointment. All but dissertation ( ABD ) will be considered for exceptional candidates ( ABD will have initial contract as Visiting Assistant Professor until PhD conferred).

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in a higher education setting and experience in developing or using ontologies.
