Job Description:


The Office of Biomedical Science seeks a Laboratory Manager to support the lab of Dr. Bum Kyu Lee at the University of Albany, SUNY. The Lee lab is interested in unraveling transcriptional and epigenetic gene regulations in the early embryo and placenta development using embryonic stem (ES) and trophoblast stem (TS) cells as model systems. With molecular biology and computational data analyses, we seek to identify novel factors governing the differentiation of ES cells and TS cells, and subsequently, interrogate their molecular functions.

Responsibilities include:
  • Organize and manage daily lab functions
  • Order, move, organize, and maintain appropriate inventories of supplies
  • Train all personnel on lab safety, operating standards, and technical practices
  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of essential equipment and maintain all service records as well as contracts
  • Organize storage of research materials such as cells and clones
  • Develop and maintain electronic inventory systems for all materials
  • Track records of materials received from other labs and handle routine processes associated with Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs)
  • Perform basic molecular biology works such as transformation, plasmid DNA and RNA extraction, making competent cells, and Western Blot
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations by interacting with designated University managers

The successful candidate must have the ability to work with a culturally diverse population.


Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, or Biochemistry from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • At least 1 year of previous experience in conducting basic research tasks in molecular biology or biochemistry and an understanding of the basic logic behind the use of specific techniques
  • Strong organization, communication, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of standard safety regulations and appropriate laboratory practices applying to research in biology
  • Basic computer skills (use of basic computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • A self-motivated and skilled person who can develop and perform operational plans

Preferred Qualification:
  • Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
