OPPORTUNITY
Mammoth is hiring a Principal Scientist I, II or Sr. Principal Scientist to provide creative and strategic leadership to CRISPR tool innovation initiatives within the Platform team. The Platform team develops next-generation CRISPR tools for therapeutic genome editing applications and is composed of technical staff with diverse strengths in bioinformatics, biochemistry, protein engineering and high-throughput screening. The successful candidate will lead ideation and strategic planning for innovation projects to improve the versatility of Mammoth's therapeutic CRISPR toolbox. This is a fantastic opportunity to impact human health by making CRISPR tools that cure genetic disease.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead ideation and strategic planning for CRISPR tool innovation projects.
  • Manage incubator programs with dedicated resourcing for early research to validate new CRISPR modalities. This includes: (i) generating and soliciting from teammates ideas for new CRISPR modalities and tools, (ii) administering a merit-based process for resource allocation to incubator projects, (iii) driving decisions to terminate, sustain or expand resourcing for incubator projects
  • Occasionally initiate academic collaborations to pursue innovation projects when appropriate
  • Implement new processes and initiatives to sustain creativity and innovation
  • Disclose inventions to the IP team for patenting
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomolecular Engineering or a related discipline
  • 6 years (for Principal Scientist I), 8 years (for Principal Scientist II), 10 years (for Sr Principal Scientist) professional experience in industry or academia in addition to graduate work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven track record discovering or engineering CRISPR technologies for genome editing applications and comprehensive knowledge of the CRISPR-Cas literature
  • Deep technical expertise in any of the following areas: (i) protein engineering or design, (ii) epigenetics, (iii) DNA repair
  • Desire to pursue high-risk high-reward innovation projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

TEAM
Our small-size proteins, such as Cas14 and CasPhi, are poised to transform disease treatment enabling novel editing approaches and delivery options that are difficult to achieve or not even possible with previously described CRISPR-Cas systems. Our teams are responsible for discovering and engineering novel CRISPR systems, establishing CRISPR-based diagnostics, and translating our unique CRISPR technology into therapeutic treatments with the ultimate goal of cures for indications with high medical need.
