Schedule: Full-time, Mon-Fri with Call Including Weekends

This posting will be used to fill multiple positions.

The RN Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology Lab will provide direct patient care as a RN in Prep and Recovery and Cardiac Cath Lab/EP Lab. In this role physical care will be provided in the prep, intra procedure and post procedure care of patients. Intra procedure care includes administering moderate sedation and patient monitoring. This professional nursing role will require the ability to coordinate care for patients, triage patients, and work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff. Requires the ability to effectively work with patient referral sources, facilitate appointments, coordinate transitions of care, and provide patient education on complex conditions. The Nurse will work with the individual patient, their families, and providers of care to develop and implement individual health plans within Prep and Recovery and Cath Lab/Electrophysiology Lab.

Responsibilities

The UAMS Registered Nurse delivers nursing care for patients in within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas and adheres to institutional policies, procedures and standards. The RN is responsible to adhere to the standard of care defined by UAMS, ANA, and Standards for specialty patient population with support and mentoring by other team members.
  • Triage, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care and patient education either by telephone or within the UAMS Clinic.
  • Delivers nursing care according to standards as defined by UAMS, American Nurses Association, (ANA), AR State Board of Nursing, (ASBN), and those set forth by nursing specialty organizations.
  • Helps develop patient's Plan of Care, (POC), per clinic standards utilizing assessment data.
  • Evaluates the progress of patients toward attainment of desired outcomes. Administers medication following clinic standards and Nurse Practice Act.
  • Verifies and evaluates care delivered to ensure care is consistent with standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates care and/or follow-up for patients who receive care in inpatient and outpatient facilities.
  • Coordinates patients' prescription refill requests and patient education coordination in collaboration with physician staff.


Preparation and Recovery:
  • Admits patient to Pre-Op/PACU areas.
  • Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, medications or information such as test results in medical records
  • Check all patient records for accuracy and completeness (i.e. facility consent, current H&P, etc.)
  • Provide patient care before and after radiology assisted procedures
  • Interpret and evaluate vitals, test results to identify and assess patient condition before and after Cardiac cath and electrophysiology lab assisted procedures.
  • Observes vital signs, IV site, pain assessment, and any special monitoring equipment required for the pre-op and recovery periods
  • Allay fears and anxiety of patient, provides quiet environment, and respects the dignity and privacy of the patient.
  • Evaluate the nursing assessment pre and post operatively and appropriately communicate data to the anesthesiologist/CRNA and/or physician/APRN.
  • Provide thorough clear and concise discharge instructions to patients and families nurse report to hospital units.

Cardiac cath lab/electrophysiology:
  • In coordination with physician provide moderate sedation for cath lab procedures
  • Monitor patient vital signs, level of consciousness and pain during moderate sedation and in coordination with physician intervene as appropriate using close loop communication.
  • Assist Anesthesia with patient care during procedures
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with treatment team
  • Assist physician/radiology technologist with supplies during procedures, scrubbing in to cases as needed.
  • Provide thorough procedure report to recovery nurse.

Education/EBP/Research /QI - Participates in Performance Improvement, Evidenced Based Practice/Research process. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Supports the integration of current evidence into nursing practices. Promotes an environment conducive to positive educational experience for all students and staff. Provides effective patient/family education

Communication/Collaboration - Implements POC using an approach that is interdisciplinary within Patient and Family Centered Care. Effectively collaborates and communicates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. Communicates care appropriately through documentation in the medical record. Reports variances in care/systems/processes through the appropriate means.

Leadership - Acts as a resource/support to others in the performance of duties. Demonstrates a commitment to the personal and professional development of other UAMS employees. Participates in recruitment/retention of staff. Facilitates development and implementation of nursing practice standards that are evidence-based and incompliance with ANA standards. Delegates care based on UAMS standards, legal and regulatory requirements, specific job descriptions, scope of practice and individual level of education and training.

Professional Practice - Participates in unit/department based organizational activities/committees such as the Professional Nursing Organization, (PNO). Demonstrates commitment to professional nursing, development and growth. Evaluates personal performance based on professional practice standards. Uses constructive feedback from peers and supervisors to improve practice and performance. Maintains clinical competencies specific to area of practice/responsibility.

Customer Service: Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associates Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelors in Nursing, or Master's in Nursing
  • Valid RN License
  • Minimum of 1 year Registered Nursing Critical Care experience
  • Must obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong work ethics and accountability

Preferred:
  • 2 or more years nursing experience with current BLS
  • 1 year of IR, ICU, ED, PACU
  • 2 or more RN Critical Care experience
  • Current ACLS


Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).
