The Dean of the College of Aeronautics is the principal academic and strategic leader of the College and is responsible for the quality of the College's academic programs and faculty. The Dean plays a critical role in aligning the vision and objectives of the College with the University's mission and strategic plan. The Dean is expected to build upon current institutional momentum and achievements in enrollment growth, retention, graduation, program development, and community engagement. The goal of the Dean is to create an environment where students, staff, and faculty can be successful.
The candidate is expected to strengthen existing partnerships and relationships with alumni, businesses, industry partners, organizations, and donors. Not just externally, the Dean is also responsible for directing the College's curricular initiatives, professional training, and the recruitment and retention of high-quality faculty, staff, and student talent. In addition, the Dean will oversee all financial affairs, maintenance reports, and overall operations. This is a position of significant responsibility and impact, with core leadership, organizational, and team-building components. Direct oversight of a Chief Flight Instructor; an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor; and Academic Program Coordinators and Chairs is required. The Dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

* Oversee and schedule training resources, including aircraft training flights, simulator, flight checks, ground school, and other learning courses used by department.
* Exercise operational control over the scheduling and conduct of flights.
* Maintain a fair and balanced schedule for flight instructors and manage time off requests around flight scheduling.
* Oversee academic programming and curriculum development.
* Manage and counsel faculty members and conduct regular faculty meetings.
* Perform basic managerial functions for the department including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new flight instructors and counseling or discharging of personnel.
* Oversee the activities necessary to maintain the College's accreditations.
* Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the FAA.
* Ensure that the department flight operations are properly staffed, organized, trained, and directed to fulfill its responsibilities.
* Oversee safety management systems (SMS) and enforce policies and procedures.
* Ensure aircraft documents, checklists, publications, and databases are continually up to date.
* Coordinate with Director of Maintenance on the timely communication and correction of mechanical repairs, as well as planned inspections or maintenance work on the fleet around scheduled flights.
* Review individual student's progress with Flight and Ground Instructors to guarantee each student is receiving quality education.
* Evaluate flight instructor development and student progress through flight and simulator instruction.
* Hold regular meetings and maintain constant communications with department personnel.
*Minimum Qualifications*

* A Master's degree in aviation required with relevant work experience in the aviation field; Ph.D preferred.
* Previous operations management experience across multiple fleets.
*Preferred Qualifications*

* Airline Transport Pilot certificate (ATP)
* Familiarity with the international contract environment is desirable
* Solid understanding of SOPs and industry best practices
* Extensive knowledge of FARs, ACs, SAFO/InFO, and FSIMS 8900
* Check airman, instructor, and safety manager experience preferred
