California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications from on-campus candidates only for the position of Associate Dean of the College of Environmental Design. This is a full-time management position [Management Personnel Plan (MPP) Administrator Ill]. In this management-designated position, the Associate Dean serves at the pleasure of the President of the University. Salary and benefits are competitive.

The College of Environmental Design (ENV) is one of only a few university programs embodying the interrelationship between the environmental design disciplines of Architecture, Art, Landscape Architecture, Regenerative Studies, and Urban and Regional Planning. ENV applies Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy to the education and training of professionals who are attuned to the cutting-edge challenges of the real world and are prepared to address those challenges with the theoretical background and practical skills necessary for effectiveness and success.

The Associate Dean should possess knowledge of challenges and barriers for underrepresented students, faculty and staff within the disciplines taught in the college.

*Core Duties and Responsibilities*
The Associate Dean is an indispensable member of the College leadership team. The diligence of the Associate Dean in attending to internal administrative duties enables the Dean to serve as the main external voice of the College. The Associate Dean reports to and works closely with the Dean and the staff to carry out the objectives of the College. The Associate Dean represents the Dean in his or her absence and works with the Dean and department chairs in developing and implementing the vision and goals of the college, including implementation of the College strategic plan. The Associate Dean must be able to quickly and efficiently resolve many unexpected daily challenges, both large and small, that land in the Dean's Office.

*Other specific areas of responsibility include:*
Student Success: Provide leadership within the College for the college-based student success team and utilize cross-divisional resources to support student success and graduation; supervise, direct, and evaluate the work of the Retention and Graduation Specialist, the Student Success Coordinator, and student assistants; review and process academic petitions and work with department chairs and AVP for Student Success in addressing student grievances and issues; ex-officio member of the ENV Student Council. Identify and employ best practices to ensure timely graduation to meet GI 2025 targets. Monitor data analytics related to raising retention and graduation rates, with a particular focus on underrepresented students; provide the Dean with information, reports, and data analysis. The Associate Dean is the liaison with other student resources across campus ensuring support and success for all students.

*Curriculum and Course Scheduling*:
Work with Academic Affairs and department chairs to help plan and monitor course scheduling and enrollments in majors, minors, courses, and programs; set, evaluate, and monitor FTES goals and admissions goals; monitor and alleviate bottleneck courses; develop new courses, degree/concentration, and interdisciplinary proposals; coordinate catalog revisions; facilitate course consultation process with other colleges; ex-officio member of the College Curriculum Committee; represent college on campus-level committees; liaison to Academic Programs for assessment, accreditation, and program review; with Chairs and staff, develop and write the College Annual Report.

*Facilities and Space: *
Coordinate infrastructure and technology support; oversee general maintenance of all classroom and office spaces; responsible for equipment and furniture inventory, technology and furniture purchases; and, oversee space renovations; manage code compliance, coordinate emergency planning, and safety.

*Staff: *
Develop and maintain staff position descriptions; participate in hiring staff; complete annual performance evaluations for direct reports and provide feedback to the Dean for other ENV staff evaluations; manage staff development; allocate work and supervise Dean's Office staff on a day-to-day basis; oversee time and attendance and serve as the liaison with HR on staff issues; and provide guidance to departments for compliance with CSUEU and APC Collective Bargaining Agreement; may manage student assistants.

*Faculty: *
Oversee temporary faculty hiring and orientation; help manage HR issues for faculty; provide faculty development opportunities; serve as liaison with Faculty Affairs; and provide[]() guidance to departments for compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement in units 3 and 11; facilitate faculty and staff participation in various forms of University's joint governance. Work with faculty to send book orders to the University Bookstore in a timely manner. Create and maintain a cohesive, welcoming and inclusive environment for students, staff, and faculty in the College.

*Budget and Finance: *
Monitor College and departmental staff spending in close cooperation with the Senior College Budget Analyst; brief the Dean on current budget issues requiring interaction with the Academic Affairs Division; manage allocation of lecturers to departments; work with Academic Affairs, Dean, department chairs, and staff to help develop, advocate for, and manage state and foundation accounts and oversee financial processes and fiscal controls, e.g., purchasing, temporary faculty salaries, etc. Work with the Dean to set FTES goals and ensure that those goals are met within budget.

*QUALIFICATIONS*
*Minimum Qualifications:*

* A master's degree in an academic discipline or a professional field, which would provide the skills and perspectives, needed for competent performance of an Associate Dean's duties;
* Demonstrable organizational, management, problem-solving, and personal interaction skills;
* Experience creating and sustaining a respectful and collegial work environment for faculty and staff;
* Demonstrable depth of knowledge of academic culture, regulations, processes and policies;
* Demonstrable ability to manage a budget;
* Five years combined experience in academic administration, program development, and postsecondary-level instruction or the equivalent.
* Understanding of ENV teaching models and the culture of a design school;
* Demonstration of ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through commitment to teaching and working in a diverse environment;
* Demonstrated commitment to student success;
* Experience with program assessment.

*Preferred Qualifications:*

* A terminal degree in an environmental design discipline.
* Extensive college-level instruction directly related to environmental design disciplines.
