Associate Director of Research, Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA)[Dean of Research, Stanford, California, United States](https://careersearch.stanford.edu/jobs/15922/other-jobs-matching/location-only)AdministrationFeb 04, 2022 Post Date93108 Requisition #*POSITION SUMMARY:*The Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA), Stanford's digital humanities (DH) center, is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, Associate Director of Research (APP2) who will work with CESTA's appointed Faculty Director and the Center's research teams to help advance the Center's array of research interests, training programs, and publication initiatives (ranging from web presence to peer-reviewed scholarship). Reporting to the Center's Faculty Director, the Associate Director of Research will help develop, implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the Center, while also managing day-to-day research activity and programs. Core responsibilities include strategic planning, research partnership development, creating proposals and reports for internal and external sponsors. The ideal candidate will be a creative, motivated individual with experience in advanced digital humanities research, capable of managing a wide array of research projects and programs. Strong planning and execution skills are critical for this position, coupled with excellent communications skills, the ability to work independently to advance the Center's goals as well as to collaborate with researchers (ranging from senior faculty to postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students), and a commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Stanford community. This position is a three-year fixed term with possibility of renewal depending upon programmatic needs and funding availability. * Support the Faculty Director in managing the Center's research agenda across the Center's labs and projects.
* Collaborate with and support internal and external stakeholders, including scholars, students, and other university and community-based networks.
* Design a process for intake and review of research projects for program advancement and grant funding.
* Identify intersections among different projects and foster collaborations.
* Lead the DH Graduate Fellowship program and oversee the recruitment, coordination and supervision of undergraduate research interns and their graduate mentors.
* Assist with mentorship and training of undergraduate and graduate students.
* Provide support with grant applications and the writing and/or editing of content for research proposals, event programming and other Center's activities.
* Lead efforts to expand the reach of the Center, both on campus and within the broader research community.
* Contribute to long-range planning processes and program development.
* Contribute to the planning of research and outreach events, including representing the Center, and the Faculty Director, on campus and beyond.
* Lead on the communication of the Center's activities and research results to scholarly as well as public audiences.
* Seek out new opportunities for research and publications for the Center.
*Example Core Duties for this Job Category include: *
* Develop and manage research programs by conducting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program, assigning resources and making program improvement recommendations that impact policies and programs.
* Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.
* Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
* Teach and/or assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Develop curriculum. Develop curriculum-rating survey, detailed feedback on courses and make recommendations for preliminary overview and changes.
* Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.
* Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.
* May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients.
* Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.
* Coach and mentor program staff.
*Minimum Education & Experience:*Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. *Desired Education & Experience:*PhD in digital humanities or in a humanities discipline is strongly preferred and 3+ years of relevant experience across digital humanities subfields, a record of early-career scholarly writing; digital humanities research skills; and a demonstrated interest in advancing innovative digital humanities research and training in the academy and in the wider community. Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience are required. *Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:*
