*Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:*The Director of the Law Library will have managing responsibility for all aspects of the Law Library. The Director ensures that the Law Library's collections and resources are sufficient to meet the primary goal of supporting the teaching and research needs of the Law School's faculty, staff, and students and its obligations to the general public as a Federal Depository Library. The Director is a member of the Law School faculty and required to teach one or more law school courses.

**Based on background and experience, the candidate may be appointed for Assistant/Associate/or Full Professor. Associate and Full Professor candidates will be considered for tenure.
*Essential Duties Summary:*
* The Director of the Law Library reports to the Dean of the Law School.
* Responsible for overall direction of a distinct and independently structured department; has human resources responsibilities and authority to hire, discipline, and terminate staff.
* Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Law Library, including personnel, fiscal, and technology management, resources, programs, and services.
* Collaborates with Dean in the preparation of the Law Library budget.
* Implements and monitors the Law Library budget.
* Ensures that the Law Library follows accreditation standards and membership requirements of the American Bar Association (ABA), and the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).
* Ensures Law Library, as a Federal Depository Library adheres to the legal requirements and the program regulations of the Federal Depository Library Program; conducts strategic planning and develops and implements strategies, goals and departmental policies to ensure efficient operations of the Law Library; ensures that Law Library collections meet the primary goal of supporting the teaching and research needs of the faculty, staff, and students.
* Responsible for the generation of all internal/external reports and completion of all information requests regarding Law Library operations and services.
* Teaches Law School courses, including legal research and other courses.
* Engages in scholarship.
* Performs other job-related duties as may be required.

*Hiring Range:*$84,615.00 - $156,000.00
*Education:*A Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library or information science program are required. Must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor rank.

*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**Knowledge of:*

* A wide understanding of issues and emerging trends affecting libraries, law libraries, legal education, and information technology.
* Tasks and responsibilities require integration of diverse functional areas and involve variables that are more abstract.
* Work is substantially complex and varied, and requires the interpretation of technical and detailed guidelines, policies, and procedures in combination.
* High-level responsibility for budget, revenues and/or expenditure authority.
*Skill in:*
* Communicating effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public; teaching at the law school level. High-level contact with others in key positions.
* Contact usually involves several areas within the University and/or with community, government, business leaders, and dignitaries.
* Handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information.
*Ability to:*
* Anticipate customer needs and regularly motivate or influence others to deliver customer service excellence
* May troubleshoot highly sensitive or confidential issues; personally, ensure problem resolution.
* Identify barriers to effective customer service and set customer service standards
* Establishes a customer feedback system and hold self-accountable for customer service excellence within the department or program.
*Work Experience:*Must have five to seven years of experience in the management of a law library as a director or associate director. Experience must include managing personnel, budgets, and library collection(s).

Experience in teaching law school courses is also required.

Active research agenda as evidenced by at least one journal publication at time of hire preferred.
*Working/Environmental Conditions:*Work is performed within routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time. Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects of light weight may be required.
