The R&D Director has overall responsibility for the BSC Peripheral Interventions Vascular Pharmaceutical Sciences Center of Excellence. Primary responsibilities include the strategic identification and execution of new/emerging technologies to be integrated across the business, adoption of highly advanced theories, concepts, techniques, technologies, and standards. This innovative leader energizes the organization by driving change to support strategic direction focused on customers, patients, shareholders, and employees.

Purpose and Key Responsibilities:
  • Identifies new strategies and projects for the investigation, design, and implementation of new or improved products and/or applications.
  • Develops capabilities and skills related to technology, disease state understanding and product development process in organization
  • Drives community of practice and technology integration across business units (i.e., Technology Fairs).
  • Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth and drives implementation. Active participant in the due diligence process.
  • Leads technology advancements for the department.
  • Tracks key emerging technologies of interest and makes recommendations as to which technologies should be evaluated. Understands and communicates the evolution of technology in global markets.
  • Develops and ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirement.
  • Creates and champions improvement efforts.
  • Ensures that new product and processing technologies are ready for new product development efforts.
  • Has extensive internal contacts across BSC and external contacts with physicians and/or industry specialists and leverages them to influence project selection and initiation.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional partners and determines short- and long-term product strategies and technologies.
  • Ensures robust product development process practices and implementation of functional excellence initiatives.
  • Encourages problem-solving processes leading to solutions that can be leveraged across divisions.
  • Ensures sharing of initiatives/ideas and accomplishments across the divisions.
  • Responsible for succession planning and the development and implementation of retention strategies.
  • Leads a group or team of employees in the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Guides, coaches, directs, and develops direct reports, and if applicable, drive those practices throughout their organization.
  • Identifies, mentors, coaches and develops junior staff to enable a strong bench of engineering talent.

What We're Looking for in You:

Minimum PhD in Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or applicable field
  • 12+ years technical professional experience
  • 5+ years people management and/or project leadership expertise
  • Proven leadership experience managing a team of direct reports (developing high performers, managing poor performance, structuring teams for success and change)
  • Drug Eluting product related design and therapy understanding experience
  • A passionate leader with experience in developing leaders and high performers, while motivating teams for optimal success.
