Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas System, Division of Agriculture's Cooperative Extension Service, Department of Animal Science is seeking applicants for a new instructor position to work with current faculty in Animal Science and the 4-H Department to provide leadership, oversight, and support for 4-H animal science-related youth programs by working with staff, volunteers, and volunteer groups to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs. Approximately 35% of Arkansas 4-H youth programs involve animals.

Responsibilities for this position will include 1) providing resources, training and content through connection to Animal Science and programs that support 4-H staff and volunteers in delivering high-quality, academically-informed animal science programs (both livestock exhibition/judging and general animal production), and intentionally support pathways to access college and employment in these programs; 2) serving as a liaison to external partners, such as fair boards and agricultural industry partners, to enhance resources available to youth animal science programs that link youth to educational, entrepreneurial, and career opportunities; and 3) identifying and/or managing extramural funding and other resource development opportunities related to youth animal science programming, including those that expand access to urban and other under-served audiences regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, genetic information, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other legally protected status.

The candidate must be highly motivated and able to be self-directed; be able to work both independently and collaboratively; have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to formulate a vision of and commitment to the development of youth through their involvement in 4-H Agriculture programs. Additionally, the candidate must have highly developed interpersonal skills, and affinity for networking and demonstrated high level of confidence and poise in front of others; a working knowledge of computer applications such as spreadsheets, databases and other computer programs; and practical experience with the use of social media and website as a teaching tool. Must be able to meet travel and work hour requirements for this position.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

M.S. in Animal Science or related discipline (Agriculture Education, Youth Development, Agriculture Science) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in youth development, as well as planning, implementing, and evaluating youth programs is preferred. A working knowledge of computer applications such as spreadsheets, databases and other computer programs; and practical experience with the use of social media and website as a teaching tool is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong communication skills (written and oral) and ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology. Ability to provide leadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of all eligible clientele. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with organizations and individuals to develop support for the 4-H Livestock programs in cooperation with the Animal Science Department.

Ability to serve as a liaison between Animal Science and the 4-H Department. Ability to provide leadership to, and coordination of statewide 4-H youth educational experiences related to animals.
