We are looking for a communication research scientist with expertise in community engagement and health equity or the social determinants of health to build and lead a portfolio of project work, cultivate meaningful and sustainable relationships with clients, mentor and develop staff, represent RTI externally at conferences and professional meetings, and disseminate the team's work by leading the development of peer reviewed publications and presenting at professional conferences. We are specifically seeking bi-lingual applicants who have experience working with Latinx communities. Success in this role requires demonstrated experience successfully leading proposals and projects, working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, experience designing and implementing, qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research studies and program evaluations, and experience researching and evaluating communication programs, campaigns, or interventions, particularly with communities and populations that have been historically under-represented in research.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
  • Serving as Project Director, Principal Investigator, or Task Lead on large-scale projects for public sector clients.
  • Managing research budgets, contracts/grants, and subcontracts.
  • Serving as the principal point of contact with clients.
  • Leading proposals and/or grant applications; providing input on sections with high technical complexity and serving as an internal, expert reviewer.
  • Increasing scientific stature by publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at professional meetings and conferences.
  • Supporting and leading projects that have a significant focus on engaging with Latinx communities and health care providers who serve them.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree with at least 10 years of related professional experience or a doctoral-level degree with at least 6 years of related professional experience in a Social Science discipline, Communication, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in researching audiences and engaging diverse community members, particularly Latinx communities, for the purpose of segmenting and identifying key insights to inform message, product, or communication interventions or campaign development.
  • Experience designing and implementing qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research studies and program evaluations, including data instrument development, data collection, and analysis.
  • Experience researching and evaluating communication programs, campaigns, or interventions.
  • Experience planning and implementing community-engaged research and/or patient-centered outcomes research with diverse community members.
  • Proven skills for planning communication efforts that reach and engage diverse communities. 
  • Experience developing and implementing evidence-based and theory-driven solutions that support learning and behavior change goals. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise reports and presentations of complex data and concepts for professional and lay audiences. 
  • Ability to manage multiple project teams of senior, mid-level, and junior staff, and bring in experts as needed, to meet client expectations and contractual requirements including the financial and administrative aspects of ongoing projects.
  • Experience managing projects and working closely with clients to ensure that contractual requirements (deliverables and timelines) and client expectations are met using the highest standards of quality and collegiality.
  • Demonstrated leadership in contributing to communication, behavioral science or public health literature and mentoring of team members in developing scientific stature.
  • Proven success of securing contracts or grant funding from federal agencies (e.g., DHHS, AHRQ, NIH, FDA, CDC), PCORI, states, or foundations is preferred.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below. Our pay ranges represent national averages and may vary by location as a geographic differential may be applied to some locations within the United States.
