Job Description
ACADEMIC DEAN

The Academic Dean is responsible to ensure increased student achievement and improved classroom instruction by assisting the principal in the coordination and administration of various programs for the school, including career and technology education within the framework of the philosophy, goals, and policy established by the school. The academics dean works closely with the school principal, dean of students, school culture coordinator, and grade level teachers in implementing practices that embrace and teach the pillars of our community: RESPECT, COMPASSION, GRIT, REFLECTION, INTEGRITY, CURIOSITY

The responsibilities of the Academic Dean includes:

Instructional Management

· Serves as a liaison between the principal, campus administration, and staff in the delivery of the school wide plan for goals and objectives of the school.

· Monitor and ensure use of aligned curriculum.

· Implement and monitor performance criteria and assessment materials.

· Participate in the development and evaluation of instructional programs.

· Perform weekly classroom visitations/observations and demonstrates lessons to model strategies and monitors curriculum implementation through effective coaching methods.

· Facilitates coordination with special needs/Title 1 students and assists in preparation, grouping, tutorials, and after school program.

· Assist with curricular and staff development planning and implementation

· Collaborate with the teaching staff, and support services (Title 1 and Culture coordinator) to maintain and improve the instructional program.

· Facilitate regular meetings with the teaching staff on an individual and group basis in order to facilitate communication and evaluate instruction within the grade levels.

· Assist faculty and staff in identifying, defining, and solving instructional related problems.

· Serve as lead contact for intervention and enrichment programs.

· Promote the infusion of technology in the teaching/learning process including successful implementation of instructional programs like STAR, IXL, Reading A-Z, Dreambox, Zearn, Headsprout, and other online sites.

· Facilitate and train instructional staff to effectively collaborate during grade level meetings.

· Conduct staff development for teachers in the content areas and instructional strategies.

· Analyze student data monthly and assist teachers with disaggregation of data to make informed instructional decisions in all content areas.

· Responsible for adherence to the school master schedule of classes and course pacing

· Lead and monitor parent communications regarding student academic progress on a bi-monthly basis.

· Assist and oversee student report cards accuracy and timely delivery

· Maintain and organize student/teacher material related to curriculum

· Plan instructional field trips tied to the curriculum

School/Organization Climate

· Promote a positive, caring learning environment.

· Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

· Communicate effectively, positively, professionally with students and staff.

· Maintain and update school bulletin boards based on monthly basis.

· Maintain and update school bulletin boards with student exemplars and other academic work

· Oversee and evaluate other content in the classroom walls on a regular basis

School/Organization Improvement

· Participate in the development of school improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.

· Assist the principal in developing, maintaining, and using information systems to maintain records and track progress on student performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

· Utilize data-driven decision making in the evaluation and revision of targeted academic programs.

Personnel Management

· Conduct bi-weekly instructional observations, record observations, and conduct conferences with staff. Provide feedback for growth and improved performance.

· Assist the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff members.

· Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise campus personnel, and others as assigned.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

· Comply with federal and state laws, school policy, and regulations.

· Maintain assigned budget for instruction supplies.

Student Management

· Serve as a liaison for students who are academically at-risk.

· Interact effectively with students to promote positive attitudes towards school programs.

· Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.

· Assist in planning daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules and teacher assignments.

· Supervise and coordinate student IEP's

School /Community Relations

· Articulate the school's mission to community and solicit its support in realizing goals.

· Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

· Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage parent and community involvement.

· Coordinate and help with school enrollment events and goals

Other Duties

· Coordinate with office manager on any transportation and/or office related needs.

· Serve as emergency classroom sub when needed

· Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/ or Executive Director
