About the Role:

The Managing Editor is responsible for the successful delivery of projects for a particular product line, from contract signing until delivery of final product. This includes managing costs, schedules and fiscal output budgets, keeping stakeholders informed of any variance, maintaining high-level contact with the author/editor throughout the project life cycle, and ensuring the quality of the final product. The Managing Editor is accountable for tracking deliverables carried out by the Content Ops department, ensuring they are on-time and within budget.

How you will make an impact:
  • Establish a schedule with PDM/Editorial team to ensure correct data in system from contract creation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Maintain high-level contact with author throughout the content creation phase, provide information about upcoming workflow stages, proactively set clear expectations about author responsibilities and the content development and production processes; receives delivery of content from the author.
  • Track progress of projects through the stages of the end-to-end content process; ensure the schedule of each component is up-to-date, and inform stakeholders of any variance against FY targets.
  • Work with Ops teams to ensure projects requirements are clearly outlined and any issues are dealt with promptly to keep projects on track.
  • Ensure enforcement of product-specific guidelines, and quality of final product is appropriate to the market; remediating any escalated issues
  • Track project costs against pre-agreed budgets using appropriate tool; informing stakeholders of any variances and troubleshooting
  • Work with Editorial/Senior Managing Editor to set up future year pub plans, using knowledge of the publishing program, author base.

What we look for (Required):
  • Minimum of Bachelors degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience in book publishing processes, including digital publishing.
  • Project management experience desired.
  • Proven track record of proposing, and delivering against challenging targets.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and with confidence.
  • Ability to forge strong relationships and build consensus with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to assimilate and work comfortably with a wide-range of business systems
  • Understanding of platforms upon which products and services operate
  • Understands the P&L, Cash Flow, and Return on Investment (ROI) implications of business choices
  • Understands the importance of data flow, data integrity, and business process efficiency, as well as the potential role technology could play to improve or enhance them
  • Ability to think critically, proven ability to identify and act on opportunities and to solve problems.
  • Sets goals, and develops strategies and plans for meeting them.
