FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering 60 associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. We are the largest public college of technology in New York State and offer curricula that goes beyond traditional classes to create a high-tech, hands-on educational experience for our students and prepare them for a rapidly changing world. For the last five years City Tech has been among the leaders in the diversity of its among all Comprehensive Colleges/Bachelor's (North), in the annual survey by U.S. News and World Report. Students and faculty are from more than 120 countries and speak more than 85 languages, with many students the first in their families to attend college.

The Physics Department at City Tech has 11 full-time faculty members, engaged in cutting-edge research in high-energy physics, condensed matter physics, astrophysics, laser physics, machine learning, and quantum information. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Computational Physics, as well as a physics minor. The Department uses a high-performance computing cluster http://ctp.citytech.cuny.edu in research and education.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach basic and advanced undergraduate physics courses within the Physics program, and to participate in curriculum development, advisement, and other service as needed to benefit the department, college and university. They will also be expected to pursue creative, scholarly and professional activities while vigorously seeking opportunities for external grant funding.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy and research experience at the postdoctoral level, with an established record of publications, are required. The Physics Department welcomes candidates from different fields of Physics, particularly those that align with current research activities of the department. Experience in managing a medium-size high-performance computing cluster is considered a favorable factor.

  • Teaching experience and enthusiasm for teaching students from a diverse population
  • A commitment to quality education for a diverse student body
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with computational research activities
  • Interest in teaching advanced courses in the Physics major http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/physics/applied-computational-physics-bs.aspx
  • Experience and/or success in seeking external funding
