The Role: The Associate Dean College of Education & Professional Studies (CEPS) and Director of School of Education (SOE) is a leadership partner to the Dean and will oversee the operations and strategic direction of the SOE. Primary responsibilities include supervision, coordination, and leadership for all programmatic issues, teacher certification, Teacher Academies, field experience, data collection/analysis, and graduate education; implementation of SOE courses and programs; and policy coordination. The Associate Dean and Director of School of Education (SOE) also serves on a variety of college and university committees that provide leadership on initiatives related to the SOE. This position acts in the Dean's absence. *Job Duties:*

- Support for the Dean and Administrative Oversight of the School of Education (SOE):

- Collaborate with the Dean on strategic planning and goals for the college - Collaborate with the Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and participate in college fundraising.

- Collaborate to ensure program quality and effectiveness and to promote student learning, student satisfaction, and student retention in all student populations.

- Support the dean in decision-making, information gathering, report draft preparation, meeting attendance, and follow-through on matters assigned to the members of SOE and the college. The associate dean collaborates with the other Associate Deans

- Provide CEPS administrative leaders support in areas of institutional assessment and improvement, human resource management, faculty/staff development and performance evaluations, and budget and finance

- Acts in the Dean's absence - Responsible for reviewing, refining and implementing policies, procedures, practices, and communication that affect all teacher certification and endorsement programs

- Responsible for oversight of reporting to and interacting with the Professional Educators Standards Board (PESB), the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), and the Washington Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (WACTE), the Washington State Legislature and other external partners

- Serve as the primary contact for the university's Professional Educators Advisory Board (PEAB) and coordinates all PEAB-related activities

- Oversee the administrative functions for the SOE including Teacher Academies, Office of Field Experiences, and the Teacher Certification Program

- Collaborate with the college Deans and SOE faculty on planning and implementing SOE strategic initiatives - Lead strategic planning for the SOE in alignment with the mission and vision of the college and university, and ensures goals are completed

- Develops and manages a communication plan for the SOE

- Lead an Advisory Council (or similar), as well as act the primary liaison between the SOE and the CEPS, College of The Sciences (COTS), and College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) deans about issues/decisions

- Manage a budget supporting SOE programs including Teaching Academies, Office of Field Experiences and the Teacher Certification Program - Represents the college and SOE on committees as assigned

- Work with the dean to maintain policies and procedures related to the college and SOE

- Approves grade changes, incompletes, independent studies, and internships consistent with university and program policies

- Attend CEPS and Academic and Student Life (ASL) leadership meetings as necessary or assigned

*SOE Academic Programs and Curricular Management:*

- Provides strategic management of general education, graduate education, and major program and course offerings as well as new program development as they related to offerings in the SOE

- Assists with Curriculog approval changes

- Reviews curriculum and schedule changes and approvals.

- Provide consultations and advocacy for SOE student concerns

*Communications/Community/College:*

- Work closely with the Dean, the Director of Development, and the Alumni Relations Coordinator to assist in SOE program alumni relations and development activities (Give Central) and newsletter articles

- Encourage and support academic partnerships with K-12 partners - Assist with media relations pertaining to the SOE programs

- Interacts with faculty, administrators, staff, students, alumni, other University constituencies, and outside agencies.

*Supervision:*

- Oversee the supervision of Director of Teacher Academies and Field Experience and the staff in the Teacher Certification Program

- Clearly defines performance expectations, ensures accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring to administrative staff in the SOE. Conducts formal performance evaluations

- Ensures employees have necessary resources - Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues

- Promotes professional development opportunities - Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement

- Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community

- Takes corrective action in a timely manner

- Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance

- Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests

- Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results

- Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. Values and encourages diverse perspectives, creativity and teamwork

- Perform other duties assigned

*Minimum Qualifications*

* Terminal degree and either tenured or a record of teaching effectiveness, professional leadership, and scholarship sufficient to support tenure in a discipline that is relevant to the programs in the SOE

* Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

* Successful administrative and leadership experience in a teacher education context

* Demonstrated expertise in analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data as it relates to the field of teacher education

* Experience with curriculum development and assessment of programmatic-level outcomes for accreditation and state reporting

* Experience analyzing budgets for compliance within an approved budget parameter

* Expert collaborator: ability to perform as an effective member of a team Ability to establish relationships with departments within the College and units within the University

* Experience in establishing, directing, and enforcing policies and regulations

* Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives in the development of structures, policies, and practices that promote equity, belonging and inclusion for diverse populations

* Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences

* OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

*Preferred Qualifications*

* Demonstrated ability to assist with program planning and enrollments issues for SOE programs

* Commitment to and experience in building innovative curriculum and/or programs that serve culturally diverse students, to include multi-modal, digital, and problem-based learning

* Experience building relationships with diverse external stakeholders, including state agencies and school districts where SOE students can be placed for practica and student teaching.

* Experience developing, planning, and implementing short-and long-range programmatic goals

* Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of inclusion and equity issues

* Well-developed organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently to meet competing deadlines

* Excellent and demonstrable problem-solving skills

* Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations

* Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion

*Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule*

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience

*Schedule/Appointment: *

Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch) involves evenings and weekends

*Working Conditions: *

Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel is required.
