The Research Development Officer will facilitate large, center-level proposal efforts by identifying funding sources, organizing teams to target funding, developing templates and resources to support proposal opportunities, and developing competitive proposals with assistance. This position also disseminates information about funded research and provides technical writing and editing support. Experience writing, communicating, and working with diverse, multidisciplinary teams is preferred and deemed valuable to serve in this position.   • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Three years of experience developing and/or writing proposals, manuscripts, or reports for federal, state, or local agencies or for academic outlets
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Advanced degree (Masters or Doctoral) in related field such as social sciences or English
  • Experience writing/editing/publishing scientific or technical documents
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding English writing, editing, and reviewing skills
  • Ability to maintain the emphasis and flow of the document while editing it for clarity, grammar, and accuracy
  • Ability to translate research or specialized content matter into materials for broader audiences
  • Ability to rapidly review social science & policy literature and integrate into proposals
  • Ability to work on multidisciplinary teams in developing proposals
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a respectful and professional manner
  • Ability to independently manage a multi-tasking workflow, conflicting deadlines and multiple projects
  • General familiarity with a broad spectrum of research designs, methodology, and scope
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment and software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
Responsibilities:
  • External Funding Development - Identify, access and disseminate information on federal, state, and private funding opportunities. Develop protocols, tools and guidance documents related to proposal development and checklists for solicitation components. Assist PIs with proposal narrative development, review of academic and policy literature, consolidation of proposal and report work products, and editing. Coordinate new proposal response and take lead development on assigned sections. Review finished proposal for quality control. Communicate and meet with PIs/research teams frequently. Network with various offices and organizations on- and off-campus in support of proposal development. Facilitate planning and linkages with existing funded projects or research efforts, including identifying opportunities to leverage existing partnerships into larger collaborative initiatives. Maintain current knowledge of general federal and state funding agency priorities and initiatives.
  • Institute Development - Assist with departmental reviews, annual reporting and or institute or research showcase events. Integrate and summarize proposal and project activities for the Annual Report. Draft and disseminate research related content for department messaging. Support the department's engagement in research promotion through external systems (such as Oaktrust and TAMU Scholar). Maintain internal project database records tracking proposals and awarded projects. Exhibit initiative to consult with PIs and research teams, determine developing needs related to securing and optimizing external funding, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Writing and Reporting - Develop and maintain boilerplate documents for proposal, website, brochure, and media requests. Assist with manuscript creation, formatting, and editing. Provide technical writing support for project reports/deliverables. Draft and disseminate topical content for projects. Conduct literature reviews. Perform other duties as assigned.
