Description of Duties:

SUNY Polytechnic Institute's College ofArts and SciencesDepartment ofMathematics and Physicsinvites applications for a full-timetenure-trackAssistant, Associate or Full ProfessorofPhysics.The successful applicant willengage in scholarly research involving undergraduate students and support our Physics program, including a Physics minor and courses offered to students in Engineering and Technology disciplines. We are eager to hear from candidates withdemonstrated commitments both teaching and research, and a commitment to cultivating diversity inthe university and professional work environment.

The area of research is open. We are especially interested in applicants with an active research program from all areas of theoretical and/or computational physics, particularly Gravitation and Astrophysics. Teaching responsibilities will include our most foundational offerings in lower-division and upper division physics courses and labs.

Specific duties, in addition to maintaining an active research program involving undergraduate students, will include teaching three physics courses and/or labs per semester (3 or 4 credits each).During the first two years of the appointment, a reduced teaching load to include two classes per semester can be anticipated, providing an opportunity to establish a research program and develop courses. Faculty also may use funds from externally-sponsored research programs to reduce their teaching loads.

Otherresponsibilities include contributing to the assessment and continued development ofPhysicscourses, and contributing to the University community through committee service and other activities.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. (ABD Considered) in Physics from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized organization.

Applicants for Associate or Full professor with well-established research programs should include in their cover letters a statement on their current program and describe how they would shift their program to SUNY Polytechnic Institute. Applicants for Associate or Full professor with interests in academic administration, including potential appointment as department chair, should include a statement detailing their interest and experiences in academic leadership and curriculum development and assessment.
