These positions involve the analysis of samples for drugs and other potentially toxic compounds in biological specimens. The individuals in these positions will be responsible for specimen preparation, test performance and reporting of test results.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, or forensic science from an accredited university

Minimum of 22 semester credit hours in college-level chemistry coursework minimally including analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis, general and organic chemistry.
  • Additional qualifying chemistry coursework and labs are mass spectrometry, quantitative analysis, separation science, spectroscopic analysis, biochemistry, drug metabolism, forensic toxicology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, physiology, toxicology, chemical informatics.

Analyst I
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 1-2 years of lab experience or,
  • Master's degree in science related field plus 0-1-year lab experience

Analyst II
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 2-3 years of lab experience or,
  • Master's degree in science related field with minimum 1-year lab experience

Analyst III
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 3-5 years of lab experience or,
  • Master's degree in science related field with minimum 2 years lab experience

Analyst IV
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 5-7 years of lab experience or,
  • Master's degree in science related field with minimum 3 years lab experience

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Analyst I
  • Performs analytical procedures within the department as defined by the supervisor.
  • Independently calculates results as applicable and as defined by supervisor.
  • Supports others in the training of newer staff. i.e. be available to answer basic instrument/extraction procedure questions.
  • Non-routine instrument troubleshooting and/or monthly maintenance as defined by the supervisor.
  • Understanding of prioritization of testing. i.e. pulling correct samples for extraction, instrument setup, calculation, etc

Analyst II - Performs all duties of Analyst I as well as:
  • Independently releases results as defined by the supervisor.
  • Supports the Client Services staff by reviewing backlogs, responding to TIQ, sample clarifies (sample matrix issues, special requests and handling) and/or updating promise dates.
  • Participates on project/kaizen or company committee as available.
  • Performs advanced instrument troubleshooting.
  • Perform weekly QC review as defined by supervisor.

Analyst III - Performs all duties of I & II as well as:
  • Evaluates quality control data for overall performance (weekly QC review and troubleshooting).
  • Assists in method review.
  • Completed all training curricula for prep, calculation and review if not previously completed.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Analyst IV - Performs all duties of an LSS-Analyst III as well as:
  • Participates in department audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Serves as a backup for Lab Supervisor or Technical Team Leader.
  • Assists in the review and preparation of SOPs.
  • Completes Root Cause Analysis Training.
  • Participates in Proficiency/CAPA Investigations.
  • Performs Monthly QC Review (providing analyst is supervisor qualified).

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Ability to hear.
  • Vision (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate instrument or equipment controls, computer keyboard, office equipment, objects or tools.
  • Movement from one work location to another.
  • Sitting and standing, sometimes for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to travel as needed for court testimony and/or training.
  • Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment.
  • Exposure to fumes, noxious odors and dust.
  • Handling of biological material and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Proximity to moving parts.
