JOB GOAL:To advance the college s mission, vision, principles, values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.Kirkwood is seeking a collaborative pianist and instructor to join the growing music area, beginning Fall 2022, on the Cedar Rapids Main Campus. *GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: *The instructor is responsible for fostering student learning through effective teaching of private music lessons, and working collaboratively with students in preparations for juries and recitals. Teaching responsibilities include offering applied piano lessons to students of various skill levels and experience, evaluating music transfer students for piano proficiency, planning lesson activities, demonstrating appropriate techniques, and evaluating and reposting student performance and progress. The candidate will have the opportunity to engage collaboratively with both faculty and students in recital and performance preparation. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach effectively in a variety of musical styles (classical, musical theatre, jazz, and popular music) and show evidence of successful studio teaching. This position consists of approximately 20-29 hours of the week each week during the academic year.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:* Teach applied lessons each week
* Teach piano proficiency and track progress to proficiency for music transfer students.
* Assist in preparing students for juries and recitals through collaboration.
* Coordinate with students to establish a regular meeting schedule for the semester.
* Maintain current course syllabi and provide it to all students taught.
* Effectively organize and teach assigned music lessons in accordance with established syllabi.
* Make recommendations concerning curriculum revision and development.

* Communicate clearly expectations for collaboration with other applied music instructors, and students.
* Stay current with needs of transfer institutions in regards to piano proficiency requirements for students majoring in music.
* Be able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve.
* Be able to organize and present music concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
* Manage the lesson studio in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with the department and college objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices.
* Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master of Music or Master of Arts degree in music performanceExperience teaching class piano and applied piano Demonstrated experience as a collaborative pianist.
*PREFERRED* *QUALIFICATIONS, **LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS**:* DMA or PhD in Music Performance or PedagogyAbility to demonstrate successful teaching in both classical and popular idioms.
