Associate Professor of Screen Studies

Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, an undergraduate college of The New School, invites applications to fill an Associate Professor position beginning in Fall 2022 in the Culture and Media Department. The program seeks to prepare students for advanced media studies and for careers in the communications industries and media arts. The Screen Studies program at Eugene Lang College explores diverse approaches to making, thinking, and expressing ideas with the moving image. It builds a foundation in film production alongside rigorous instruction in film history and theory. Screen Studies emphasizes hybridity, combining studies with practice in every aspect of the program.

We seek candidates with an established record of scholarship, teaching, and leadership in the field of screen studies. We welcome applications from established film theorists and film historians, as well as media scholars whose research focuses on the moving image in any period. Scholars of non-Western cinemas, Black and Indigenous media, industry studies, and/or queer cinema are especially encouraged to apply. We likewise encourage applications from candidates whose scholarly work engages classical and contemporary film and media theory and/or is augmented by engagement in screen production, programming, or criticism. The successful candidate will design courses in their areas of specialization and teach our core lecture course, Introduction to Screen Studies, on rotation. They will also be expected to serve on review and promotion committees and serve as program director on a rotating basis.
