General Description of Position: The Department Chair of Advanced Automation & Robotics Technology, Smart Manufacturing and Industrial Technology will deliver assigned AART, SMDI, and INDT classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, and in accordance with college loading policy, course objectives and program learning outcomes.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Instruction:
    • Deliver assigned AART, SMDI, and INDT classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning, and in accordance with college loading policy, course objectives and program learning outcomes.
    • Develop and maintain AART, SMDI, and INDT curriculum and supporting course materials in keeping with and furtherance of course objectives and program learning outcomes.
  • Retention and Student Success:
    • Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
    • Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
  • Community Relations and Business Outreach:
    • Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college to advance the college's relationships within its service area as appropriate for department/division/college.
    • Develop community/industry/business contacts to advance college relationships within service area as appropriate in the department and division.
  • Enrollment Management:
    • Review and analyze program data as related to completion and retention.
    • Support development of student internships and other real-work experiences to support the curriculum and student experiential learning.
  • Program Administration:
    • Complete annual Program Review, which includes analysis of trend data and resources.
    • Coordinate program advisory committees and assure broad-based membership and participatory agendas.
  • Human Resource Management:
    • Coordinate recruitment, evaluation, and development of full-time and adjunct faculty with Human Resources and the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (or designee).
    • Review and respond to faculty, staff and student issues.
  • Demonstrate commitment to learning new skills, technologies, and related certifications.
  • Embody a positive, collaborative and professional attitude and work well in teams.
  • Work effectively in an independent, creative, and proactive manner to complete projects/assignments.
  • Participate on statewide committees for curriculum review.
  • Ability to perform the duties of a chair position, including but not limited to supervision of full time and adjunct instructors, course scheduling and staffing, book and software procurement, and annual performance reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Educational and work experience requirements (One or more of the following):
    • Bachelor's or higher degree in a technical/related field and two years of directly related work experience.
    • Bachelor's or higher degree and five years of directly related work experience.
    • Associate or higher degree in a technical/related field and three years of directly related work experience.
  • Experience in Advanced Automation and Robotics Technology (AART)
    • Possess knowledge and skills in automation and controls, including but not limited to; PLC, conveyor systems, robotics, and system integration.
    • Possess knowledge and skills in Industrial Technology/Maintenance (INDT), including but not limited to; electricity, electronics, motor controls, mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.
    • Prefer experience in Smart Manufacturing and Digital Integration. (SMDI)
  • Possess or willing to obtain any specialized certifications for the class being taught as indicated by the Curriculum of Record (COR).
