Job Title:

Job Summary:

Administer and coordinate the overall business and operational research activities within the Jackson Heart Study Field Center, including oversight for the clinical exam, participant follow-up, hospital surveillance, and medical record abstraction activities. Assist in the development and implementation of short and long term strategic planning. Assures adherence to applicable study policies, procedures, standards and practices. Promotes ethical conduct and compliance with applicable federal, state and institutional ethical principles, rules, regulations, and policies. Work collaboratively and effectively with other institutional officials, regulatory agencies, investigators, research staff, and various public constituencies.

Education & Experience

Master's degree in nursing, public health, or related field and seven years research experience. Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) preferred.

Knowledge of research clinical operations. Leadership technique skills and experience managing large complex research projects. Interpersonal and problem resolution skills. Ability to coordinate, direct, and evaluate clinical research activities. Self-motivated and self-directed. Experience in personnel management and coordination of staff, participants and resources. Organizational and management skills. High degree of motivation, ownership, and interest in serving the needs of the JHS Exam Center research mission. Experience in planning research activities and carrying out the JHS Exam Center research initiatives. Knowledge and experience in good clinical practice, FDA, OSHA, and quality assurance regulations. Verbal and written communication skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Demonstrate personal and professional integrity; demonstrate collaborative and respectful behavior; demonstrate flexibility and willingness to change; identify opportunities to improve processes; use resources efficiently; actively promote safety for participants, families, visitors and coworkers.

Responsibilities

* Provides overall administration, management and operational oversight for all clinical research activities in the Jackson Heart Study (JHS) Field Center. Manages and oversees day-to-day performance of clinical exam, annual follow up interviews, hospital surveillance, and medical record abstractions for JHS participants.
* Establishes and implements short and long-term research study goals and objectives. Assist with the development of JHS protocol, pilot testing and manuals of operation. Monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness and makes changes as necessary.
* Monitors and facilitates workflow, maximizing utilization of space and resources to provide optimal clinical research services and participant care.
* Maintains organizational structure and staffing to accomplish JHS Field Center research goals and objectives. Plans and schedules work with outpatient clinical departments within UMMC as it relates to each research project.
* Provides administrative counseling and assistance to investigators and research staff to meet study objectives and resolve problems related to research activities. Communicate with study sponsors, regulatory agencies, and UMMC Compliance Department and Institutional Review Board (IRB) on behalf of the JHS Field Center.
* Provides administrative oversight in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community engagement events and outreach activities to enhance research awareness and study participation.
* Maintains policies and procedures for the JHS Field Center research program and assist with the identification and implementation of organizational efficiency.
* Collaborates in the development of ongoing creative recruitment and retention strategies and data collection approaches and implement changes to enhance program effectiveness.
* Serves as point of contact with, JHS Director, federal project officer, investigators, external partners, local collaborators and oversee multiple ancillary study research projects. Also, serves as chair of several JHS subcommittees.
* Reviews and approves participant reimbursement and personnel requests.
