Who We Are: As a recognized leader in space science research and spacecraft instrumentation, avionics, and electronics, we are helping to reveal the secrets of our solar system and the universe.
Objectives of this Role: As a Scientist, you will be responsible for the investigation, research and publications.
Through scientific research, you will operate, maintain, and align high power Nd:YAG lasers and support their design, integration, and use into spaceflight instrumentation oriented towards conducting in situ chronology investigations across the Solar System.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: Operating, maintaining, and aligning high power Nd:YAG lasers like those from Continuum and Quantel.
Research high-power dye lasers like those from Continuum and Lambda Physique, moderate power OPO's, like those from OPOTEK, and high power fs-lasers, maintaining internal and external alignment of high power beams, replacing flashlamps, fixing cooling pumps, and minor electronics repair
Laser safety at a wide range of wavelengths and intensities, chemical safety working with dyes and solvents, and working with high-voltage electronics.
Research and support the development of laser systems for in situ spaceflight instrumentation including system design, integration, test, and operations.
Participate in production of scientific publications and proposals.
Requirements: Requires a Bachelors with a 3.00 GPA in Physics or directly related Science degrees with related experience
2 years of related experience
MS Degree with 1 year, PhD requires 0 years
Research or graduate academic research experience maintaining and operating high power lasers
Knowledge of laser systems; including system design, integration, test, and operations
Ability and interest in publications
A valid/clear driver's license is required
Special Requirements:All applicants must pass a conflict of interest evaluation and be qualified for an NRC clearance.
