Communications and Outreach Manager

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Institute for Life Sciences team at the University of Southampton, and our partners at the University of Birmingham, Imperial College London, and University of Nottingham, to create and deliver a range of strategic communications and outreach activities for our new, UK Research & Innovation-funded network, MyAge.

Based at our Highfield Campus, this post will support the MyAge membership by developing communications and outreach plans to deliver network objectives, leading to the publication of a MyAge Roadmap. The roadmap will describe the national research priorities to deliver improved muscle health and mobility across the life course; you will play an important role in supporting the MyAge team to prepare and publish it.

Working alongside a highly motivated team of senior interdisciplinary researchers and support professionals, you will be responsible for managing communications to promote member engagement across the network, including acting as MyAge content manager, initiating, writing and creating compelling content on the UK Ageing Networks website https://www.ukanet.org.uk/ and a range of other channels. You will lead the development of communication tools, such as newsletters, brochures, targeted emails and social media content. Working with the MyAge team you will plan, manage and deliver outreach activities to engage patients and the wider public to support development of the roadmap.

You will be a key member of the multi-institutional and multi-sector MyAge team, helping us shape the future of research into healthy ageing. If you care about making a difference to society, this could be the role for you.

About you

Coming from a background of communications and outreach engagement, with experience in a complex environment such as a higher education institute or NHS Trust, you will be an experienced all-round communications professional with the drive to lead fresh, exciting content across multiple platforms. With enthusiasm for making a difference, you will thrive in a busy environment, have strong project management skills, a proven track record for delivering successful projects and be adept at collaborating with a wide range of different stakeholders, including patients and the public.

Possessing strong interpersonal skills, you will be proactive in your content generation, able to prioritise well and manage often conflicting demands and deadlines.
