The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) has a rare and exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Medical Statistician

In this role you will be working within an industry-leading trials unit, with expertise in the design, conduct and publication of multicentre, interventional clinical trials and other well-designed studies.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Statistician within the SCTU. You will provide statistical oversight for studies/trials assigned within the Clinical Trials Unit and will be responsible for all statistical aspects of clinical trials within the SCTU portfolio of studies. The post holder will supervise medical statisticians working on all aspects of the SCTU clinical trials. You will develop links with investigators throughout the UK to develop new phase II and III trials. You will be joining a busy, motivated and highly regarded team.

Successful applicants will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in statistics or another relevant discipline as well as experience in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials and other well-designed studies, be competent with either STATA or SAS and have excellent organisation and communication skills.

The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is based at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust within the Faculty of Medicine and coordinates numerous high quality multi-centre clinical trials and other well designed studies that will directly influence routine clinical practice. It is a Cancer Research UK core funded, UKCRC registered clinical trials unit that also receives funding from the NIHR.

The post is available on a full or part time fixed term basis for 24 months and will be based within the SCTU at Southampton General Hospital and at home, the University operates a hybrid model of working.

Our trials cover the complete spectrum of clinical practice, from primary care through to tertiary referral medicine, including cancer care, experimental therapeutics, surgery, supportive care and prevention. Undertaking multi-centre early and late phase clinical trials, we work nationally and internationally to create the evidence for patient benefit that will directly influence routine clinical practice in the NHS and overseas.

As part of the NIHR and CRUK infrastructure we have close working relationships with our partners, including the Southampton CRUK Centre and Experimental Cancer Research Centre and NIHR partners across Wessex such as the NIHR Research Design Service, NIHR Clinical Research Network, Clinical Research Facility, Biomedical Research Centre, the Wessex Institute and University Hospital Southampton.
