Job Description
*The Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM)* has an exciting opportunity for a *Neuroscience Laboratory Research Assistant (Laboratory Research Assistant)*. The selected incumbent will conduct pharmacological treatment and/or stereotaxic surgery on mice, behavioral testing of mice, and biochemical analyses of brain tissue to study the molecular mechanisms of age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Occasional weekend work will be required. Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter with their applications.

*Primary Duties:*
* Conduct stereotaxic surgery to deliver viral vectors to the brain.
* Conduct behavioral testing in rodents with or without drugs.
* Execute molecular/biochemical analyses of brain tissue using techniques such as Western blotting, enzyme assays, microscopy, etc.
* Compile and analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications.
* Perform day-to-day laboratory operations such as ordering supplies, maintaining lab stockpiles (e.g., buffers), keeping the laboratory environment orderly and clean, etc.
* Train and guide junior members of the lab.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory such as neuroscience, biochemistry, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or psychology.
*Experience:* N/A. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and computers preferred.
*Supervisory Experience:* N/A.
*Certification/Licensure: *N/A.
*Other: *May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.
*Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:*
Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
