Duties
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Educational Psychology;
  • Educational Psychology practicum supervision;
  • Participating in the development and assessment of teaching and learning opportunities;
  • Research and publication in the chosen areas of specialisation;
  • Research supervision of postgraduate students;
  • Participating in Social Impact projects and rendering appropriate services to the University and teaching community;
  • Performing academic and programme management functions;
  • Additional duties applicable to the Academic Head of the Department:
    • Providing strategic leadership in the Department and contributing to a strong academic identity;
    • Performing all necessary administrative and personnel duties associated with a Departmental Chair;
    • Providing academic leadership by creating and executing strategies to establish the Department as a leader in the discipline (nationally and internationally).


  • Voor- en nagraadse onderrig in Opvoedkundige Sielkunde;
  • Opvoedkundige Sielkunde praktikum supervisie;
  • Deelname aan die ontwikkeling en assessering van onderrig- en leergeleenthede;
  • Navorsing en publikasies in die gekose spesialiteitsrigtings;
  • Studieleiding van nagraadse studente;
  • Deelname aan Sosiale Impak projekte en verskaffing van gepaste dienste aan die Universiteit en onderrig gemeenskap;
  • Uitvoering van akademiese bestuurspligte en programbestuur;
  • Addisionele pligte van toepassing op die Akademiese Departementshoof:
    • Bied strategiese leierskap in die Departement en dra by tot 'n sterk akademiese identiteit;
    • Uitvoering van al die nodige administratiewe en personeel verwante pligte wat met 'n Departementshoof geassosieer word;
    • Verskaf akademiese leierskap deur die skep en uitvoering van strategieë om die Departement as leier in die dissipline (nasionaal en internasionaal) te vestig.


Job Requirements

  • Relevant PhD;
  • An appropriate teaching qualification;
  • A strong academic record, including international collaboration;
  • NRF rating;
  • At least five years' experience in leadership and a managerial role in higher education;
  • Proof of registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as educational psychologist for at least three years;
  • Expertise in and experience of interpretive research, community educational psychology and support in school and community contexts;
  • Thorough knowledge of educational and educational psychology changes, policy and context in South Africa, as well as knowledge of the educational psychology context in South Africa;
  • Relevant teaching and training experience at tertiary level;
  • Experience and knowledge of educational psychological practicum supervision;
  • Computer literacy, with the ability to use various Microsoft programs (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, online teaching platforms, etc.);
  • Commitment to further research and leadership;
  • Attending and presenting papers at national and international conferences;
  • Recent and relevant publications in accredited peer-reviewed journals;
  • Postgraduate research supervision (completed).


  • Toepaslike PhD;
  • 'n Toepaslike onderwyskwalifikasie;
  • 'n Sterk akademiese rekord, insluitend internasionale samewerkingsooreenkomste;
  • NNS gradering;
  • Minstens vyf jaar se ervaring in leierskap en 'n bestuursrol in hoëronderwys;
  • Bewys van registrasie as opvoedkundige sielkundige by die Suid-Afrikaanse Raad vir Gesondheidsberoepe (SARGB) vir minstens drie jaar;
  • Grondige kundigheid en ervaring van interpretatiewe navorsing, gemeenskaps sielkunde en ondersteuning in skool- en gemeenspakskontekste;
  • Kennis van huidige onderwysveranderinge, -beleid en -konteks; sowel as kennis van die opvoedkundige sielkunde konteks in Suid-Afrika;
  • Toepaslike onderrig- en opleidingservaring op tersiêre vlak;
  • Ervaring en kennis van opvoedkundige sielkunde praktikumsupervisie;
  • Rekenaargeletterdheid met die vermoë om verskeie Microsoft programme te gebruik (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, aanlyn onderrig platforms, ens.);
  • Onderneming tot verdere navorsing en leierskap;
  • Bywoning en aanbieding van referate by nasionale en internasionale konferensies;
  • Resente en toepaslike publikasies in geakkrediteerde vaktydskrifte;
  • Nagraadse studiebegeleiding (afgehandel);
