The laboratory of Dr. Anang Shelat within the Department of Chemical Biology is seeking a highly motivated scientist interested in leveraging the power of chemical biology to translate promising small molecule drug candidates into clinical trials for pediatric brain and solid tumors. Our lab employs state-of-the-art cell-based high-throughput and high-content screening technologies, advanced bioinformatics and machine learning approaches, and a unique collection of patient-derived orthotopic xenograft tumor models to: (a) investigate drug molecular mechanism of action, (b) identify drivers of drug resistance and sensitivity, and (c) develop combination strategies that enhance in vivo efficacy while preserving a therapeutic window. The lab is particularly interested in exploiting DNA repair defects, identifying and targeting addiction to anti-apoptotic BH3 proteins, and manipulating epigenetic state to selectively eliminate tumor cells.
The applicant must have a strong background in cancer biology and significant experience with in vivo studies, including basic animal husbandry, tissue procurement and processing, and murine xenografting. You must be comfortable working with 2D and 3D cell culture techniques. You will harness the world class resources available at St. Jude to accelerate research and seek new insights. The successful candidate will work alongside basic scientists, clinicians, and pharmacologists in a project team environment, with the goal of translating research findings into clinical trials for children with cancer.
