Assistant Professor

The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) Department of Pediatrics, Division of Growth and Nutrition is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor position (tenure or non-tenure track) to join a productive, research-focused, Division that conducts public health pediatric research related to nutrition, physical activity, obesity and food insecurity, with a focus on policy, systems-level solutions, and health equity. A description of current research studies can be found here: www.marylandschoolwellness.org. This faculty member will join an interdisciplinary team led by Dr. Erin Hager, Division Chief.



Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor will contribute to ongoing NIH and USDA funded research studies and will secure funding for independent research projects. Ongoing research studies include: a randomized trial of approaches to wellness policy implementation in schools; an evaluation of the impact of COVID-19 control policies on family routines, diet, physical activity, and obesity; and an evaluation of the implementation of school meal programs during school closures. Although data collection is underway for each of these studies, secondary data from these and prior studies are available for analysis and dissemination. The new faculty member will actively participate in manuscript writing, Division and independent grant proposals, presenting at academic meetings and to national policy and practice stakeholders, and other essential duties as necessary. We seek individuals committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary research and those prepared to join us in our commitment toward prioritizing sustainable, inclusive, and anti-oppressive practices.



Qualifications:
  • Ph.D., Dr.PH, M.D. or equivalent in public health, behavioral science, psychology, nutrition, exercise science, or related fields
  • Demonstrated public health research track record
  • Established trajectory of refereed publications
  • Strong interpersonal, writing and presenting skills
  • Proven ability to obtain external funding for research
  • Prior teaching (preferred)


Responsibilities
  • Maintain a funded research program (faculty member salary will be covered 100% in year 1, 75% in year 2, and 50% in year 3)
  • Contribute to scientific literature
  • Mentor trainees
  • Engage in professional service


Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
