Senior Research Scientist I, Bioinformatics - Oncology

Specific responsibilities:

The Department of Bioinformatics at Gilead is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to lead analysis of biomarker and genomics data (e.g. NGS data) collected from patient subjects enrolled in Gilead's clinical trials or observational studies with focus in Oncology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment to support clinical development programs or translation of clinical findings. In addition, the candidate will contribute to presentation and publication of clinical biomarker/genomics findings either as a peer reviewed publication or as part of new drug applications/filings submitted to regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions:
  • Conduct analyses of genomics (exome, whole genome, bulk and single-cell RNA-seq, etc) and biomarker (cytokine/chemokine, target occupancy, etc) data from patient samples to support patient stratification and biomarker selection for Gilead's clinical development programs.
  • Develop bioinformatics methods/software, analysis pipelines, and applications to make genomics results and findings available to research and development groups.
  • Initiate and manage both internal and external collaborations.
  • Manage various bioinformatics systems and ensure pipeline validation and regulatory compliance.
  • Coach and develop junior scientists and staffs within the team.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
  • PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, genomics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in cancer genomics or immunology preferred
  • Proficient in at least one of following programming languages: Java, C/C++, Python, R and Shell in a Linux environment.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with statistical analysis of genomic data using R and Bioconductor
  • In-depth knowledge of current algorithms and technologies related to next generation sequencing
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills that foster collaboration and teamwork
  • Biomarker experience preferred
