We are seeking a motivated and talented Sr. Research Associate II with solid biological/biochemical assay development and automation experience to join our Discovery Sciences & Technologies group. The successful candidate will develop, optimize, and execute in vitro cellular/biochemical assays in support of Gilead drug discovery research portfolio across a breadth of therapeutic areas including virology, oncology, and inflammation. He/She will be responsible to interpret and provide the bioanalytical results to project teams in support of drug discovery research. The position is within a larger group and the successful candidate will also participate as an engaged member of a collaborative department. Direct experience with drug discovery research settings and/or high throughput screening is strongly preferred.

- Apply scientific knowledge and technical expertise to develop and conduct plate based biochemical and cell-based assays/screens using state of the art technologies.
- Maintain a cutting-edge awareness of technical developments as well as scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve assay and workflow performance.
- Prepare clear and accurate scientific and technical reports.
- Prepare and deliver scientific presentations to project teams and R&D management.
- Prioritize diverse workload with strong time management skills
- Participate productively in cross-functional teams, demonstrating strong communication skills
Qualifications
- 4+ years of work experience with BS degree in biological science or a related scientific discipline.
- 2+ years of industry work experience with MS degree in biological science or a related scientific discipline.
- Proficient in in vitro assay design, troubleshooting, data analysis and working with 96-w & 384-w plate-based assays.
- Solid understanding of modern high throughput screening assay technologies, experience using laboratory automation equipment.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative, matrix environment.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills and well-developed communication skills (oral and written) are required.
- Experience with CRISPR editing, Mass spectrometry, Flow cytometry analysis, biochemical, biophysical assay methods (e.g. SPR), and/or Image-based High content analysis is strongly preferred.
