Essential Duties

1. Performs synthesis and quality control tests of PET radiopharmaceuticals for use in imaging experiments. 2. Conducts metabolite analysis of radiopharmaceuticals in biological matrixes. 3. Maintains detailed records of methods, procedures, and results according to good documentation practice. 4. Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments. Keeps equipment and instruments in working order, recommends equipment updates, and orders maintenance when needed. Responds to and assists in facility inspections 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 6. Identifies, stores and disposes hazardous waste according to University regulations. 7. Ensures that research activities and routine laboratory operations are performed in a safe and environmentally sound manner, and recommends changes when required. Identifies and corrects potential safety problems. 8. Participates in quality assurance of laboratory procedures, methods and results. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Four years of related experience; two of them in the same job family at the next lower level and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associates Degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Position Focus:

Clinical Assistant 1 - PET Radiochemistry performs production and analysis of radiopharmaceuticals for use in PET imaging research and carries out related tasks in the PET radiochemistry program, including radiopharmaceutical synthesis, quality control testing and analysis of radioactive metabolites in biological matrixes. This position is involved in the acquisition of research data from PET imaging experiments to be provided to Yale investigators, the NIH, the FDA, industry sponsors and other collaborating and regulatory entities.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Degree and experience in PET radiochemistry, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and/or analytical chemistry with HPLC, NMR, and LC/MS analysis skills. Previous experience in organic synthesis, drug discovery, biomedical research, biomedical engineering, or related fields. Competence in handling and troubleshooting chemistry, electrical, mechanical and computer hardware/software problems.
