Job Summary:
Vir Biotechnology is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Senior Research Associate to support efforts in the discovery and development of novel therapies for the treatment of infectious diseases. The successful candidate, under the mentorship of experienced Scientists in the company, will participate in discovery and translational research efforts aimed at identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic targets, investigating mechanism of action of therapeutics and defining optimal drug combinations through evaluation in the appropriate in vitro models of viral infection. You will work cross-functionally and be exposed to other groups within the company to advance programs from discovery into development.
Responsibilities And Learning Opportunities:
  • Independently conducts scientific research to support the development of novel infectious disease therapies with focus on Hepatitis B Virus and Hepatitis Delta Virus infections.
  • Designs and executes laboratory experiments to identify, evaluate and characterize antiviral molecules of different drug modalities (antibody, nucleic acid, small molecule) in a BSL-2 laboratory environment.
  • Performs routine medium-throughput screening experiments as well as more complex cell and molecular experiments to investigate the mechanism of action of novel therapies.
  • Creates day-to-day activities keeping accurate records of experimental details and results related to assigned projects.
  • Participates in the development and conduct of laboratory meetings, updating group members on background and status of projects by giving oral updates or internal presentations.

Qualifications:
  • Preferred: MS with a minimum of 4 years experience in industry R&D, BS with a minimum of 6 years experience
  • Highly skilled in cell culture and aseptic techniques.
  • Experience and proficiency in virology techniques strongly preferred, such as cell-based infection models, cloning and/or genomics, plaque assays, and neutralization assays.
