We are seeking a dedicated team of individuals to be part of San Diego State University's (SDSU's) South Bay Latino Research Center (SBLRC) . Our goal is to conduct meaningful research activities focused on promoting and expediting research to improve cardiovascular disease outcomes in the low-income Hispanic/Latino populations living in the border region of San Diego. Our research is focused primarily on epidemiologic, behavioral and genetic research in a effort to improve health, well-being, and the care delivered to Hispanic/Latinos who are at risk for, or have, cardiometabolic conditions such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

You will be part of a team of Research Assistants who are passionate about their community and community-based research. In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with study participants, conduct recruitment screening, health assessments, interviews and/or collecting participant information and data.

Responsibilities
You will have the opportunity to:
  • Conduct participant recruitment and screening; perform research measurements to include sitting blood pressure, anthropometry, assessments to determine blood vessels flexibility, and peripheral arterial disease.
  • Instruct participants on the use of various devices, and collection of blood, urine and stool samples.
  • Administer questionnaires on various health related topics, cognitive and memory functions tests, sexual and gender identity, and informed consent and HIPAA. Administer safety-screening questions by phone and in-person.
  • Ensure data collection is conducted using standardized methods and administered to study participants in their language of preference. Schedules study visits, and follow-up calls.
  • Prepare materials for the in person study visits, and mailings.
  • Accompanies study participants to off-site assessments, as well as conduct home visits to collect health assessments.
  • Adhere to data security practices to protect privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain quality and confidentiality of data collected and follow data entry protocols and guidelines.
  • May have the opportunity to train on MRI scanning equipment.
  • Conduct annual follow up Interviews, and update participants contact information.
  • Ascertain participants vital status, document medical events/hospitalizations, and record life events.
  • Other administrative duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
Completion of sufficient lower division coursework OR equivalent of one year related experience

Preferred Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in public health or related field
  • Previous work experience in a research setting and/or in the field of community health research studies
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (reading, writing and speaking)

ADDITIONAL APPLICANT INFORMATION:
  • This position may have the responsibility for driving 2-3 times per week which will require access to reliable transportation and proof of valid CDL and auto insurance.
  • The COVID-19 vaccine is required by the CSU for all SDSU Research Foundation employees as a condition of employment. Should you be offered a position, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination status. Individuals who obtain an approved medical or religious exemption on file will be required to complete regular COVID-19 testing
